Speaking of putos and puteros and such things I was reading that all of the gentlemen's clubs in Monterrey are closed because of a big shoot out two months ago at a place called the Matehuala (not to be confused with the town by the same name).

I had been there years ago. Quite a dive. What I read was that no customers were targeted but that 10 employees were killed.

Conversely I heard that Reynosa's boy's town was experiencing a revival because the troubles in Reynosa have largely passed.

Of course! ;)

Monterrey used to have a really rocking night club scene - I have stumbled into everything from the raunchiest strip clubs to very dignified semi-private clubs where Sinatra-era music and atmosphere prevailed. And until a few years ago the feeling was that these places were immune from the troubles. Then one of the dance clubs a few blocks from Monterrey's version of the Riverwalk got shot up. Now it sounds like everything has pretty well shut down. Sad.

And when I was in the RGV I would take riders to Reynosa's Boys Town for a beer and point out that they had been to the nastiest, roughest place in town and managed to survive, so there shouldn't be any place that a tourist was going to that they couldn't manage.

Borderland Beat (I can hear the groans now) reported that some Mexican official publicly stated that there is a split with the Zetas and they are seeing a lot of Zeta upon Zeta killings. If that's the case then I don't see it lasting very long. To paraphrase Clint Eastwood "dyin' ain't no way to earn a living."

Its gonna be hard to get there on its side. On the other hand, tire wear won't be a problem.
