Still at it...

I have done a lot of adaptations lately. Reused the old front fender as an inner rear fender, mounted CDI a Regulator on it. Took a long time to find a K&N that had the angel I needed to not hit the seat bottom. Covered the seat in the Husqvarna Blue of that year (1983). Received my white plastic tank from Clarke, got my new front fender, handle bars and turn signals (eBay is wonderful!). Finished my Chain guides - what a magic in imagination that was. Then I wrapped my exhaust - from muffler connection on, and found a BAD measurement! I have to do that all over again (right rear shock rubbed). But, I just got lucky - I think. I found a site that is like eBay for China, or something (Ali Express). They had a Yashimura muffler set-up for $55 bucks! Hi guys, I'm cleaning out the garage and have some xt550 parts I want to get rid of. I bought these thinking that they would make good spares for my xt500's... but it turns out they wont fit a 500 (Obviously I knew the shock wouldnt work, but I got all the parts together. If you have a 1980 or newer xt500 the forks will work.). All of it came off of a 1982 xt550 with 5,000 miles.

Original paint red tank with decals with a few very minor nicks (you can see all the nicks in the photo).

Complete front end.

Rear wheel with good tire, good wheel bearings, good brake shoes, and sprocket.

Stock rear shock.

I'm located in Maryland. These parts are pretty big and/or heavy so shipping might not be cost effective... but if its worth it to you, it ok with me.

Has anyone successfully sealed the clutch and stator covers on a 550 using rtv gasket maker and no actual paper gasket?

NO, and it's not worth the cheat to attempt. The bike I purchased for my project had so much sealant used that it looked horrible, still leaked and nearly clogged the frame filter. However, a "SANO" cheat is much cleaner, and works as well as factory - AKA SANO. Trace your cover onto gasket paper (at any auto parts store) or a manila folder, cut it out, and use a paper hole puncher for the bolt holes. Then apply a "THIN" coat of your gasket maker on each side. If there is a gasket, then it was not a machined matched case - it NEEDS a gasket. I prefer gasket assistance by Yamabond 4 = gray, Yamabond 5 = black, also available from Honda and Subaru under different names. The gray is for machined cases, and if used with a gasket, a guarantee no - never leak. But good luck removing the gasket if you ever need to go back in that area again. The black is a snotty type for use with a gasket, and in many cases, the gasket can be re-used. Hope it helps

That's great info, thank you! I think I will give the gasket material a shot (I work for an auto parts retailer) tomorrow. I have to also get a kickstand installed.

Interested in the parts. Definitly the tank and rear wheel. Would take the package deal but the shipping scares me. If you can figure how to package the tank and wheel and are close to fed ex or ups get me an estimate to 30293.

Looks like a seat off a TT600 bike? Or a XT 600?? Hard to say. The cover is off ebay. Big ED XT550 !!
