ADV@LBL - Info, Random Rides, and General Chat-Chit

ADV@LBL!

Adventure Bike Playground

This thread is here to provide LBL info, inform others of your upcoming daytrips and weekend rides, and to share your ADV@LBL experiences.

Link to info document, The ADV@LBL BOK (Book of Knowledge) - http://1drv.ms/1I3g4GA (Thanks, d r m !)

In the past few years, a few of us have gathered at LBL (Land Between the Lakes) to ride, camp, explore, and enjoy the area. We've named the gathering "ADV@LBL.RIDE". It's not a rally, it it's not a "pay-to-play" event, it's just a bunch of like-minded riders getting together twice a year to enjoy awesome riding and moto-bonding . But mostly, we do it for the riding.

It occurred to us that some of those attending "ADV@LBL.RIDE" stumbled into it while searching the web for Adventure Riding and Dual Sport opportunities. As we thought about it, and looked ourselves, it was obvious there is not much information about ADV and DS riding in LBL. So, here ya go.

The Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area is an Adventure and Dual Sport motorcycle playground. A 40 mile long, 10 mile wide peninsula bordered by the Cumberland River/Lake Barkley on the East, and the Tennessee River/Kentucky Lake on the West. There are 171,280 acres with 444 miles of paved, gravel, and dirt roads waiting to be explored. A wide variety of terrain provides plenty of challenges for any rider at any skill level. (These roads are for street legal vehicles ONLY, and must be properly tagged and equipped. Pure off-road riding can be found at the Turkey Bay OHV area http://www.landbetweenthelakes.us/se...ls/turkey-bay/ )

Use this thread as a guide. If you can enhance the info, please do. Share what you like or dislike to help others plan their ride. Post your pictures. Name your favorite campsite. Give a quick ride report. Whatever you can share to help others would be greatly appreciated.

Here's a couple of inmates (contacts) you rely on to answer your questions about LBL riding. This list will grow.

Good call!

The roads are numbered (100's, 200's, and 300's) Generally, the 300's are less maintained.

My favorite road is 141, on the Kentucky Lake side, just north of Hwy 68/80. Even though it was quite rude to the GS, it has a great, relaxing feel to it. A nice SUV can travel on it without issue. The one, rude, water crossing is only deep in the spring, and only after heavy or prolonged rains.

Subscribed! I was just there Thursday but unfortunately just crossing on 68. Just been on the Trace on a moto. Looking for both big bike (Tenere) friendly and Wr250r type roads to explore. A friend and I are looking for a little bike (Honda CT's) Camp-n-Ride there this fall.

I'll be watching the thread. Thanks for starting it.

Tenere - check

WR250 - check

Honda CT's - COOL!

The small enduro bikes would be a blast! I'm (slowly) reassembling a '72 Suzuki TC125, it would be great if I could tag along!

We get together in the fall around November to camp at Energy Lake. It is sort of a Base Camp with folks grouping up and riding their own ride. The CT's would be a hit!

+1 on the CT's. I have a former employer who collects them. I used to get a paid lunch plus free meal on Fridays if I would ride one of the CT's to eat. Maybe I can borrow one from his fleet and tag along. Surely there won't be any hooliganism involved if Troy and I are both on small bikes.

The folks at Piney camp ground are a bit Nanny (respect my authoratay) State-ish. The folks at Energy Lake camp ground are very friendly & seem to enjoy having responsible motorcyclists around. Tell them you are with the "Adventure Riders" when you check in.

There are several other camp grounds at LBL that may have something that appeals to you as well but, I have no experience with them.

Not sure if there's a link to this above, but here is a direct link to the current motor vehicle use map with all of the accessible roads within LBL,

http://www.landbetweenthelakes.us/wp...15LBL-MVUM.pdf

As Troy mentioned, roads with the higher numbers are less maintained, but that's not always the case (i.e. 141,143). Troy, wasn't your imfamous creek crossing on 141? I've been studying the map this morning, always seem to find somewhere I haven't been yet. Time to head back to Duncan Lake, somehow FR 308 has been avoiding us. Seems like I tried it from the north end once and got lost in the fields. Time for a scouting trip.

I was looking at the online map sections and are some only open in hunting season?
