1978 Moto Guzzi 850 LeMans

Finally got one of my dream bikes after a long search. Even got the color I wanted. She's a 1978 Moto Guzzi 850 LeMans (mk1.) It's not the round tail light version but it's definitely the first in the series. I got it with 25k on the clock and it had been properly stored since 2005. It was 100% but a little dusty.
So far, I've rebuilt all calipers, master cylinders, new stainless brake lines, soda blasted and rebuilt carbs. After I did that and threw in a battery, it fired up immediately and ran just phenomenally. I had to do pretty much zero adjustments to anything. Just a little carb tuning from the rebuild was all. I got extraordinarily lucky that the previous owner was such a stand up guy and all around incredible mechanic (he owns Mazmart here in Atlanta.) I'm very very fortunate to get this bike from him, so I hope I do him right and treat it how it deserves.
I've got some more on the books for it. I'm just replacing rubber here and there and cleaning it up. It doesn't really need a resto. I may do that in a year or two, after I do my r75.
It's a completely different feel than the BMWs that I'm used to. It's more tricky to work on, too. Far more pep in its step than the beemers but it feels equally as calm and graceful cruising the interstate.
I'm going to have a lot of questions, but for now, I've sorted that needed attention.
And of course, here's the pictures. I still have yet to clean it fully...I got to excited about riding it!

My first sit on the new bike. Had to take her over to the brothers house to share the moment.

And here she is home!

Yes, I know about Guzziology :)

Very nice looking Le'Mans

Please don't restore, Please refresh. I like things as original as they can be but mechanically sound.

BTW: Nice FJ55

Congrats! Great bike. Yes; clean and polish as opposed to restoration. It'll be worth way more $$ if you keep it original. I have lots of experience with these. Give a shout if I can help. White was also available in '78 I recall.

But...is that a dent on the upper-left tank or a reflection/shadow from the clip-on?

And that's how you ended up with an Eldorado for less than a guy who wanted me to drop it off at Cycle Garden. :^)

The good thing is, your damn motor can't read. If it says oil on the container, it's pretty much OK to dump in there.... ED.

I'll be interested to hear what you think of it after riding it awhile, particularly in contrast to the BMW. The way it goes for me is…. I ride my Guzzi 3 or 4 times in a row, all the while thinking that I am really losing interest in the BMW, and how much better the Guzzi is in so many ways. Then, guilt gets ahold of me and I ride the BMW, which was my first bike and I've had it for 21 years. After a few minutes I'm thinking, this thing is really nice actually, and I kind of feel guilty for straying. But then next time I'll usually pick the Guzzi, because it tickles me so. Its just such a ballsy, lusty beast. I'm just glad I can have both. Have fun with your LM. Someday, maybe one will find me.
