Quick tire question

I need some tires for my WR250R, it has the stock trail wings on it now. I was originally going to put D606's on it but than I heard the 606 on the front sucks. What would be a good front tire to go with the rear 606? Thanks.

I run a D606 rear with a mt21 front on my xrr. Works out great in my opinion, and the combo comes highly recommended here.

All typos and misspellings blamed on my phone.

Ok, I heard that was a good combo before, I'll give it a try. Thanks.

No problem. For what its worth I've heard the same about the 606 front, and I haven't tried it. I have a new 606 front waiting to go on my klr, so ill know more when the current tires wear out. The 606 front should wear longer, and with the klr should perform fine.

I've ran kenda trackmaster II's before. They are as good as the 606/mt21 combo in dirt, maybe a bit better, but not as good on the street and seemed to wear a good bit quicker. No odometer on my xr, so I can't tell you for sure.

I have been running this combination for a while, too. I get ~ 3500 miles out of a rear D606, but ~2700 miles out of the front. This is the first combination I tried where the front tire wears out faster than the rear.

I ran the D606 on the front for several years, but I think the MT21 is better. However, a local rider, neduro, finished the Dakar Rally last year (2012) using the D606 front on his KTM. The Dakar had all sorts of conditions, from pavement to rocks, water crossings, hard packed dirt, loose dirt, 1 km high dunes , and powder sand, in 110 deg. to freezing temperatures. Somehow the D606 front worked for him.

After watching many riders on many different bikes and tires, I'm pretty well convinced that anything will work good if you know exactly how the bike will respond and have the skill and experience to use it. I was on a trail ride last year on my xrr with new tires, riding with a guy on a klr650 and bald stock tires. I was leading the whole time and slowing him down. He's also 39, taller and heavier than me, and has been riding since he was a kid. Higher natural skill level also I would say.

You will not like the D606 on the front... I certainly did not !
I now have the MT21s at both ends and that works well. My next knob will likely be the D606 as they wear like iron and hook well also.

Does your front end float around a lot? I use that combo, but with a weird twist. My XL600 is a supermotoish conversion with an 18" rim up front. Because of that, I'm using the MT-21 rear tire up front, and it doesn't feel very planted. It eventually grabs, but just feels weird.

I'm not looking to swap out the rim, so I'm stuck using rear tires up front.

My front feels great to me. Not quite as good as a true dirt tire, but close enough.

I've heard that running a 17 front gives the feeling you're describing. Take a look around the other forums if you get bored, I can't remember what bike runs a 17 front but those guys talk about the same issues. V strom maybe?
