Boy was I stoked last night! Game 7s rock in all sports but this one's gonna be great! It will make the ultimate demise of the Bo Sox so much more satisfying! GO CURSE!

It was great to see the umpires confer and listen to he who had the best view. The first base ump that called A-rod safe initially was blocked by the first baseman, but the plate umpire saw the whole thing. If you watched him as he strolled out to first base, he was shaking his head the entire time. He KNEW what the call should have been and stood by it, even though the 1st base ump was the crew chief! Of course being a Sox fan it was great to se them get the calls right (and for us) but i would have been content if they had just gotten them right. All I could think of when I saw the ball come loose as he tagged A-Rod, "The f#$%ing curse!" Well the umps reversed the call. Now it is time for the boys to reverse the curse!

the umpire also called him safe when he hadn't tagged the bag.

The refs have been exceedingly accurate for having humans judge this sport... definitely not controlling the game...

Go Astros...

Um, I'd beg to differ on the Ortiz call from the other night.

One of the lead umps for all of MLB gave an interview on EEI this morning -- talking about this exact ruling. Basically, for the intent of the rule (lost control of the ball) in question, the runner is implied to have touched first base and may proceed on to another base, due to the loss of control by the fielder. However, on appeal, the baserunner would be ruled out because they did not touch the base.

It's the most fucked up language I've heard, but basically it's one of those "you get your out if you appeal it" things. Remember, from the reverse angle, you can see Randy point to the ground (where the ball contacted the field) and then sweep his arms with the safe call, which triggers the above ruling situation.

But when the umps conferred, Joe West (home plate ump) had one of the best views of the play. He presented his case and other umps had seen A Rod swat his arm at Bronson, so the call was correctly reversed and Jeter was sent back to first.

Cheers,

-Andrew

It's my understanding that the UMP gave the safe call to show that the play was to continue. With no call I believe there would have been too many questions from the players involved and both benches.

They got it right which was all I really cared about.

I was thinking about the play this morning, and I couldn't remember if Jeter had been sent back to first or not. If he had, A-Rod-up-my-ass would've served his team a lot better by taking his out like a man, since Jeter would've advanced to second.

p.s.: because of you, all I see when Rodriquez is on television is his disgusting purple lips. Gross.

The problem was that all six umpires were channeling Tim McCarver. They became so unfucked they couldn't tie their own shoes.

All's well that ends well.
