It would be cool if Apple added a feature that said:

So I'm playing with a Cardo BTA-II (HFP bluetooth transmitter) to try and get sound from my Garmin 2610. I got the BTA-II paired with my SMH-10 and it works to play sounds from the GPS for about a minute, after which the BT flashes still show connection but the sound is cut off and cannot be restored except by turning either the Cardo or SMH-10 off and back on. This is obviously not terribly useful.

The GPS simply puts out sound, there are no related settings. I have not found any programmable settings on the BTA-II although, according to the manual, it stays connected for up to a minute after a call is ended (when it's used to enable BT for a non-BT phone). I therefore wondered if there is anything else I should be trying with the SENA?

Sounds like what is happening is that the Cardo may be dropping the connection when it doesn't get any input from the GPS for a minute or two. Not sure how to get around it, though. I use an SR10 and it works pretty well with my Montana.

I'll keep searching, BUT...can you hard wire an older iPod, or is it blue tooth only?

I'm kinda old fashioned still

I'm still looking, but haven't found a hard answer yet. N. My friend has unlimited data and he just runs pandora, but I don't think there is much cell coverage on my typical routes

yes the mp3 jack is on the helmet mount, not the actual SMH10
but the jog dial will still adjust the volume of this input.

See directions on sena website.

You can plug an I-pod in directly to the unit on the side of the helmet. A better alternative is to buy Sena's unit that you can plug anything into it and it sends it to the headset by bluetooth.

Boon doggle and I phone

What pairing method do I use with just my iphone and a boon doggie, when I updated and use old method ( like I pair the phone) it doesn't stay connected.

Is the "boon doggie" a A2DP transmitter? How do you want your iPhone paired, just as a phone with no music?

If the above is correct.

- Pair your iPhone as (HFP) Phone only
--- Hold Phone Button for 5 seconds
--- within 2 seconds tap the phone button again (LED turns blue flashing)
--- You will hear "Phone Selective Pairing"

- Pair your A2DP dongle as (A2DP) Media only
--- Hold Phone Button for 5 seconds
--- within 2 seconds tap the jog dial (LED turns red flashing)
--- You will hear "Media Selective Pairing"

In that case, its going to be the phone and the dongle both fighting over the single A2DP connection so the order you power them on and allow them to connect will become important. You can pair your iphone using the normal phone pairing method and pair the A2DP device as Media only. The SMH10 should remember both connections.

If you want to use the dongle, you'll need to make sure you turn it on first and let it grab the A2DP profile first. When you turn on your iPhone next it will only have the HFP connection to grab. It may be okay with that, but it may keep disconnecting trying to connect the A2DP profile too? It will just be trial and error to see how it works.

When you power off the dongle, the iPhone may automatically grab the A2DP profile or you might have to just cycle the BT on the phone to get it to reconnect with both.

That setup isn't exactly the best, but with some patience and trial & error, you might get it to work well enough to suit your needs.
