Thanks GhostRider for the info. I just prefer Beef when eating BBQ, except when it is pork ribs. Need to try Pork Butt sometime, just have not seen it much where i eat BBQ.
You need to try the Salt Lick, one of my favorites. Classic location. Great BBQ. Great ride to it. Perfect ADV meet site???? Most could make it a day run.

I am up for it sometime in near future... I am thinking this weekend would be wildflower nirvana...whats Salt Lick's address?

Near Driftwood, Texas...generally West of Austin by 30-35 miles...south of 290. They put out a damned good feed, the atmosphere is great, and the servings are certainly adequate. They would have to rank somewhere near the top of anyone's rating system.

I agree completely. Definitely one of my favorites too. I have mentioned it more than once to Ghostrider. Great riding in the area and the BBQ would make a 100 mile straight seem like the best ride ever.

It most certainly could be. I haven't been since I lived in Austin and would love to go. Weather should be great, as well as the scenery. May need to plot out a course for best pavement to hit. It's beginning to look more and more, that Enchanted Rock and Llano are day-trip only.

On a quick stop, ate at this place. Not bad but would not drive out of my way to get there.

1) Brisket: ok above avg. 6
2)Ribs: Ok again and above avg 6
3) Sausage: not as good, and tough as hell! 4
no pork butt!

Located on 16 north of downtown.

Generally in BBQ, pork butt is often called a Boston Butt in the supermarkets. Its the butt end of the front leg and shoulder joint. Ham is the rear leg and thigh joint. The butt is the part of the leg that attached to the rest of the pig. The other end is called a shank. Being in Texas, the BBQ here is all about the beef.

The Salt lick in Driftwood Texas is very good Q, IHMO. But its also has the best place to sit and wait for your table to open up. Apparently its BYOB. It always sucks to find that out when you get there. I'll post up some photos of the courtyard tonight.

Louie Mueller's BBQ in Taylor Texas

Overall 8 or 9 (this is the best I've had)

Brisket - I had 1/2 lb of the moist end - 9

Beef Rib - get it scored for easier eating - 9

Sausage - they have 3 types there, but they were sold out of 2 by the time I was there (yes, its one of those places that sells out of stuff) - 8

Cold Shiner Bock - 8
