Agreed I'm on 9/42 and it's much better than stock

No need to touch the clutch, in tight sections

I was under the impression that I did have 9/42 gearing on my Cota 4RT. I just confirmed that it has 10/41 gearing on it. This is awesome. I could definitely use even more low end torque. It might just tame my whiskey throttle. Can't wait to check this out.

I would suggest reading the improving the 4RT thread!

Best thing I ever did for my whiskey throttle was bring the levers up. Have fun!

I changed to a 9 tooth front a while ago and it really helps me to go slowly through the sections without having to constantly feather the clutch. It helped with low end acceleration, but also increased the compression braking a little when backing off the throttle.

Give it a try!

I have been combing the thread on Improving the 4RT. I've been trying to dig up as much knowledge as possible on this rad machine. Four days after I bought it I couldn't get it started for the life of me. Which was a heart breaker, for a moment. After two days of tinkering I finally figured it out what I had done, and it was back to 100% again. I placed an order today for a new 9/42 drive train. It feels like Christmas Eve. I can't wait for these parts / presents to show up. I really didn't think this bike would capture this much of my attention.

As some may have heard... King Juan Carlos of Spain abdicated his throne this week.
Looks like he has a little more time to dial in his 4RT now!

Why is that bike so expensive? That 06 seems much pricier than other trials bikes of similar age.

2010 Gasgas 280 $4500

2012 Gasgas $5500

2006 Gasgas 280 $3500

2006 Sherco 2.9 $2750

2011 Gasgas 300 $4800

2007 Sherco 2.9 $3900

Is the 4rt worth it when you can get an '11 Gasgas for the same $?

Depends on who you ask, those that have them are loyal and will rattle on about HRC type build quality, Showa suspension, etc. they tend to hold value a lot better than the others, I think I would still suck on a 4RT, but if anyone wamts to loan me a new Repsol to find out, I'd sure be OK with that.

A good friend will take you trail riding, an ADV friend will double back and say, "how did you get down there?"

Seems like a bargain if you can buy a nice 06 4RT for no more than the price of a 2011 Gas Gas.

Sure, there are more competitive bikes, on which you can possibly get better results, however the 4RT is very satisfying to ride (when you get it right) and own

I love mine, but wouldn't rule out a Beta Evo to own, in addition

I did a trial last night and thoroughly enjoy riding mine
