I stared at mine today. Come to think of it, we have a competition this weekend. Mayhaps I should see if the damn thing will start.......

The last year the 4rti has been completely ignored while I've been riding the new GasGas. Since the Ute Cup is quickly approaching, I dusted off the Montesa, gave her 3 kicks and she came to life and purred like a kitten.
I'd forgotten how much I like about the 4rti until riding it this past weekend. It rides completely different from the GG. In some ways better and in other ways, not so much. Regardless, I can't wait to get to the mountains and never even think about touching a carb.

I tried something different today on my 4RT. I took the gearing back to stock!
I had a 44 tooth rear but just wasn't getting the mo I wanted going over stuff. So back on went the 41. So far I'm happy. I little fast in the technical stuff but I guess I'll have to get better with my clutch hand. Anyone else have thoughts on the 4RT's gearing? |

I just went back to stock also. Since I was new to trials when I got the Montesa, the low gearing worked best for my skill level...it slowed things down a bit. After spending 1.5 yrs on the Montesa and 1 yr on the GasGas, I now prefer the stock gearing.

I run mine REALLY low, 9/42 gearing. I found it much better for the super-tight turns, especially on a hillside. No issues getting up obstacles, but then again I do little poooosy obstacles in my class (those are 'bout all I can do anyway ). If I need more rear-wheel speed (long uphill climbs for example) I just upshift.

I may regret going back to stock gearing at the high elevation of the Ute Cup. But, its an easy swap back to lower gearing if that's the case. I expect the stock gearing will be better on the 20+ mile loop though.
