Finished my winter maintenance. My list of stuff to do expanded far quicker than it receded. Two months of dismantled bike and strewn tools and pieces. Lost one bolt in the process, and gained three spares. The lost one must have dropped out on the quarter mile of gravel road near my house from an initial test run. Might have spent a little time looking, but it was graded two days ago so I guess that will save me from wasting my time.

The three spares are a mystery that I have not looked into yet. I put on a few new parts so I think that must be it.
I just rode it up the road a half mile and back. I have a new popping on deceleration to figure out. I had hoped with new jetting etc. it would be running better, but apparently I still have some tweaking to do.

Spares...

Having just finished a fairly long list of stuff myself, I was stumped last night to find two quite substantial looking bolts left over on the workbench....

...it took almost two hours of checking stuff over and monkey-scratching to realize that they were the stock bar-end handguard bolts that I'd replaced early in the process.

Love this stuff...

I just put my 640 back together, after having the engine out and all sorts of bits apart for the last couple months. With almost everything back on, I started to wonder about the 3 large bolts left; one long, two short 8mm bolts, clearly OEM KTM. After lots and lots of head scratching, I remembered that I had put on the sidestand reinforcement plate a month ago (on my 950), and these were the extra bolts. So I'm coming up with the right amount of fasteners for the 640.

Crackling on the decel means you have enough fuel. Way better than the alternative, and sounds badass to boot!

I've been on jury duty all week, so (during the breaks) I've spent a lot of time looking forward to this weekend and getting back out on the bike. To make up for it, I sent off the money (credit card numbers) for one of Craig's new black ESBs for the 990! Looking forward to it and the new Remus Roxx arriving on the door step.

Graphics done, heated grips installed and pulled the labels off the new WINGS pipes.
Bike is now done except headlight guard. And then replace all the shit I break!

Installed a new thermostat, then the lower airbox, new pilot jets, adjusted the rear needle position, installed the carbs, new fuel pump w/Dr. Bean kit (OEM fuel pump sleeve is a fucking stupid design by the way

), installed the battery, routed new carb vents, new front plug (rear plug is on order

), re-installed the front exhaust header, and finally the radiator.

Now I just need to fill it with oil and coolant and hold onto my ass when I fire it up (did my first ever valve check in this maintenance blitz, so I'm a wee bit nervous). Then burp the cooling system.

BUT all I need to do if all the new additions work out is finish putting the plastics/tanks on, do the crashbar stud upgrade, and then I need to put new tubes in my tires and I will be good to go for the riding season.

Got my Rally Raid screen back from my buddy's auto body shop today. He applied a thin resin coat to the back side, sanded, then reshot the entire screen...
