added a touratech light guard i got off another inmate from this site. i think they are ugly as sin but what ya gonna do? i have lost count of the number of headlights i have busted on my 640 from chasing people through the dez. the thought of that happening to this bike did not fill me, nor my wallet, with joy.

laters,

laramie

Once the paint dries... For the final ingredient it's time to add a little dirt... Then some more...and some more!!!

That or his paint is just falling off, like mine does. And then i drop it and i'm happy the bike did not have a perfect paintjob.

Huge bubbles!!!! So ugly, i had to pinch them. I preferred the wrinkles. In any case, the day I bought the bike I knew it wouldn't be long before I would send it to the paint shop.... I dreaded the orange vynils and the orange high fender. I know some inmates love them, but mine made the bike look like it was sticking its tongue out. So for three weeks I did nothing but search this forum for inspiration, and once I saw Desert surfer's bike I saw the true aesthetic potential of my bike. Four weeks after buying my 950, I finally love the way it looks...

Changed the oil for the second time.

I'm not going to say how long it took me .

Noticed that the rubber isolator on my Black Dog skid plate is giving the underside of my engine a good shine (in front of the drain plug).

Another observation...

After buttoning everything back up, put in 2.5 liters per the manual. Ran the engine until 7 bars lit up on the temperature gauge. Put in another 0.5 liters. Ran it for awhile again. Checked the dip stick, which indicated oil level just above MIN. Went for a proper ride (i.e. typical or actual operating temperature) and measured the oil level again, which indicated oil level just below MAX.

One other thing: I was able to change the oil without removing the left tank. However, instead of taking the time to remove and install the tank, I spent a lot of time dealing with limited space. Also, without removing the left tank or the battery cover, it's difficult if not impossible to torque-to-spec the upper oil tank drain bolt and the two screws on the oil valve line. In retrospect, it might be easier to just remove the tank.
