This map (Patagonia4x4) cover all the Cono Sur, this is part of Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Paraguay, Peru, Bolivia and Uruguay.
This map is building by the users, ervery one send his/her waypoints and tracks. For me is the best general map in this area, but is not complete. Every day is better. They annouced a big update in next days. Buenos Aires is very well detailed, bur only have 1/5 of Santiago. Another option but only for Chile is a commercial map from www.gpschile.cl that is very good in street level but not so good in roads. The Wordmap of Garmin is incredible bad, is not a option.

Goes from 10 degrees south latitude to Tierra Del Fuego
Seems they have taken the WorldMap and then overlaid more detail overtop where they have it. Just under 9 MB for the full map You need to register, then a username/password is sent to you. Download a setup program which pulls down the maps and adds a mapset called CONOSUR into Mapsource. |

Sorry, Patagonia4x4 was the host for the “Proyecto Coñosur” a free project created in Argentina to develop GPS compatible cartography for South America. As such it receives collaborations from anyone interested in adding to such effort, which are later compiled and made available for free download. Now the project has a little break, the guy who compiled made his own Web site trying to make money with that.A new Project start whit the same community from the first one but now we are nearly 4000 people. The new cartography it superb “Proyecto Mapear” and already is an English interface http://www.proyectomapear.com.ar/index.php?newlang=english Regards. Javier…… www.dakarmotos.com |

I´m collaborating with both, Proyecto mapear and Patagonia 4x4, and both have advantages and disadvantages. For example Patagonia publish updates continuously, then you have the last information.
Inside cities out of Argentina Proyecto Mapear is street level detailed, Patagonia not. I have both installed and for city level navigation I use Proyecto Mapear, but for the route I prefer Patagonia.
