Anyone running a 180/55/r17 on the rear instead of the 170/60/r17? My current rear tire is badly cupped, and I have a tire from a previous bike with a thousand or so miles remaining, though it's a bit wider. Thoughts?

Mine 2004 used came with a 180/55-17 instead of the stock 170/55-17.

Was told that I'm gonna have to remove the muffler to get it off wheras the 170 doesn't require it.

Gonna go back to the stock 170 shortly.

I'll check that, thanks. I only had the swingarm in mind and it seems like there is enough clearance for the wider tire on that side. I forgot about the exhaust side.

It's time to start thinking about replacing my tires. (See above) Who's running what, how are they working for you, what would you never run again, even if they were given to you?

The bike came with Pilot Roads, and I've put about 8,000 miles on them so far, with some tread left. They're badly cupped from being under inflated and over loaded. On my short list so far are Pilot Road 2, Road Smart's, and something from Metzler, the name of which escapes me. Maybe Avon Storms again. I'm open to recomendations, so let's hear it. Hopefully this won't turn into an oil thread, though.

I took Metz off and put on Conti. Road Attacks. The RT never handled so good. Hope they last.

This is what the Bridgestone on the front of my R1150RT looked like after I flogged it mercelissly-

I changed it in a parking lot (in the middle of a big ADV group ride) - replaced with a new Pilot Road.

Great tire!

I'm currently running Conti Motions.

Happy with the ride.

LOVE the price.

Not familiar with that one.

Lots of votes for Conti's so far.

I like 'em too. 8000 miles so far with tread decent tread left. And they handle well too.

I'm very satisfied with my Pirelli Angel STs.
