I know who sold that tank. I had a chance to buy it from the owner. Just had to pass, couldn't justify the cost...it was temping though.

Awesome to see some of these bikes actually in use! I've had a basketcase of TY80 parts since I was in high school (something like 12 years ago). I got them as a result of some horse trading with a friend...but I never had time or money to even think about assembling them into running form.

I finally dug them out of the snow last week and started to look things over...I found this thread and started getting exited about the possiblities. But I've since come to the realization that I'm probably never going tackle the restoration. However among the parts I have, I'm sure there are some that could be put to good use by some of you. I have one more-or-less roller chassis, another bare frame, an extra set of forks, a bunch of crusty engine parts, etc. I think the wheels will be going to use on other projects of mine, but anything else is up for grabs if it will help you out.

Here are some pics of part of the "junk pile."

There's also an XR75 hiding in there, and of course pics of my KDX (Rest In Pieces, as I've been parting that out too ).

I've posted more pictures on photobucket. http://s908.photobucket.com/home/mlutz21

Pretty much what you see in those pics is what I've got for the TY. Unfortunately, this stuff has been exposed to the elements for years; it was originally stashed high and dry under a tarp, but it was left there and eventually the tarp disintigrated. It's all really dirty, would certainly look better after cleaning. Nothing pristine, but some useable stuff there.

The engine internals are all rusted, but the cases look good on cursory inspection. The cylinder is of course rusted inside and out, and I haven't checked the bore size yet. The head looks in good shape.

If you need any close ups of specific parts, let me know.

Here's a few more shots from the "League" performing cruel and unusual punishment to the Team TY80 at last weekends NMTA event!

It absolutely floors me that this poor TY is still carting these not so smart (and not so sober!) competitors around after a year of this abuse!

You agree brewtus?!?

Do you think this is what Yamaha had in mind when they designed this little trialer?

Won't even give up the ribbon after the event is over...

Give 'em hell brewtus!!

Great pics, NMTB. Thanks for the support you've shown the League for what, two years now?

We had a great amount of fun this year. Congratulations to Lance "MooMoo" Butler, the 2010 League Champ (He's the one I'm trying to get the ribbon away from in the last photo).

Funny I should see this post today. The Team TY is in the driveway right now getting cleaned up for a minor refurbishment for next year.

C'mon kiddies. Show us those TY's! Complete, disassembled in boxes, restored or wretched, drag 'em out, ride 'em, post pics here!

Fun it is. And after a year of....being lovingly pampered, some upgrades and maintenance are in order.

First off, the WAY too long throttle cable installed by the previous owner (to connect the Domino throttle pipe to the stock TY carb) had to come off...

to be replaced with a custom cable from B&J Racing, specifically made for the TY80 with a Domino throttle...

Note how much shorter the B&J cable is.
This is better......

After that, a....better rear fender install, and a bit of air filter maintenance. Thanks to Bob Rowland of BR Motorsports for the fender!

Next on the list...replacing the bent handlebars (which now resemble Speedway Bike bars) and lubing ALL pivot points. An inspection of the frame revealed NO BROKEN WELDS/FRAME MEMBERS after 2 years of immature adult ridden stupidity. I am now totally convinced that these "mini" bikes are the TOUGHEST trials bikes on the planet. Any one want to refute?

Are you kidding? ANY Gas-Gas is more reliable than a forty-year-old minibike.

Wait for it...

The topic of G-G reliability just seems kinda ~pertinent~ right now. And therefore, fuel for scathing comments.
