Videos of the DKW factory in 1927.

Like the old Triumph vids - obviously torque wrenches weren't "necessary"

In 1972 the bike I most lusted after was a Maico 501.Fortunately most dreams aren't realized - otherwise I might not be here today. It's still a fucking cool bike though...

I used to read all Rick Siemans (Super Hunky) stories in Dirt Bike magazine about desert racing 501's. Certainly made my 1970 CT90 seem a little underpowered/undersuspended by comparison

He (Randy Mamola) has dropped it once - last year in Melbourne just after this pic was taken. I don't know who was on the back at the time.

Ryan, that DKW pic is of one of the water-cooled singles. Pretty sure that's a magneto drive facing forward. I've heard one of the triples in Aus at a classic meeting one time - open megaphones. That's why I'm a deaf old bastard now.

Oscar, that Mick Andrews Replica is a Mk II, same as the one in my shed. It sits next to an Explorer built 2 months later (both 1974). My own MAR is unrestored, having had a more or less continuous competition history, so it don't gleam quite the same. Not that they did when new, either.

Now this, this is my own idea of a Cool Wall OSSA (it's the one motorcycle I lust after now, to go next to the existing ones and also for useability. I doubt any came in to NZ). I give you the 1974 250 Six Day Replica:
