Let's see I posted a google grab, so therefore it would stand to reason that I would know where the tag is. If you would like I will post the location of your tags with my GOOGLE grabs, I would be willing to do that for you.

I'm not going for this tag for a bit. It is close enough you would have seen a grab photo. Why do you think I'm going to be bruced did you tell your brother to hurry up and head out?

New clue:

This battle helped limit the destruction to this lovely small city by "Kill Cav" and diverted him from going after the Powderworks west of here.

Great tag Laura! the new clue is a big help and I'm getting a history lesson searching for it. This may turn out to be more interesting than your Cope tag. Now If I could only get a double bruce again.

I found it right after you gave the second clue, which I think is more than sufficient, but family business prevents me from leaving town at least until Sunday. I hate to leave such a great tag sitting, but maybe someone new will swoop in and grab it. If not, I will try for it Sunday.

OK. There's nothing to see at the tag location, though, unless you go on a certain weekend in February. Of course there'd be stuff to see/do if you go on into town.

A frequent lurker, this tag close to home was too good to pass up.

In February 1865, Union Gen. William T. Sherman's army cut a wide path of destruction from Atlanta to Savannah. His army destroyed and burned Blackville, S.C., and had Columbia in its sights.

However, he turned his attention to Graniteville Mills and a paper mill in Bath, dispatching a cavalry wing under Gen. Hugh Judson Kilpatrick to destroy them.

On Feb. 9, Gen. Kilpatrick's wing came across a Georgia unit under the command of Col. Charles C. Crews near Williston, S.C. After a short skirmish known as the Battle of White Pond, the Confederates retreated to Aiken.
Two days later, Gen. Kilpatrick reached Aiken.

Outnumbered by nearly 1,000 men, Confederate Gen. "Fightin' Joe'' Wheeler planned to surprise the Union troops at an old freight depot on Williamsburg Avenue, but a premature shot by one of his men alerted the Northern soldiers.

The fierce battle that ensued culminated on York Street at the present location of First Baptist Church of Aiken as the Union troops were driven back.

Casualty totals vary, but the Union was reported to have as many as 53 dead and 270 wounded. The Confederates suffered 31 dead and 160 wounded.

Every year in February a reenactment of this battle is played out at this location outside Aiken.
