Backfiring

DancerDave, you got any pictures of Raven Rock?

Where were we at when we were backfiring the bikes when the golfers were getting ready to swing?

i bought a KLR new in 1993 and on the way home from the dealer I decided to take it off road. The first jump the front end bottomed out and the windshield jammed between the opening on my helmet and flattened my upper lip and rattled my teeth something terrible. I sold it a month later, so i feel sorry for all KLR owners!!!!

This was in David Ky. It was the only school in the area and was K-12 and was also the Post Office. Best I can remember we stopped to mail a letter home to our wifes. I dont remember which of Dancerdaves wifes got the letter.

Someone got ran over on one of our trips but I will let BDtoolman tell that story.

Kick Starting an SP600

I have to tell this on my bud BDTOOLMAN.

When I went to the dealer to see the SP for the first time I asked about taking it for a test ride. He looked at me kind of funny and said if you can start it you can ride it. I had some practice starting big thumpers because of the bored out TT500 Yamaha i rode for years. So I went through the start up drill and she came to life. Some one yelled HE GOT IT STARTED. I rode off for about 10 minutes and when I came back they yelled LEAVE IT RUNNING. I shut it off and said WHAT . I figured if they couldnt start it they didnt deserve to ride it. When I left they were still kicking. About a week later I came back to buy it and they shot me a good deal because after I left they tried for a half an hour and still couldnt start it, he said its where you left it. I bought it then started it on the first kick and left them shaking there heads.

When I got it home BDTOOLMAN said let me take it for a ride. If you can start it you can ride it.
15 minutes later and a nose bleed he gave up. I dont think he ever rode it.

I bought a new 1982 SP500 as a leftover. Nice bike.Actually, that bike holds the record for the one I owned the longest-something 20 years. I saw it still going down the road a couple years ago. Easy to recognize, cause I installed a Clarke fuel tank when the originaluted a pin hole through it.And it still had the cheap army surplus throwover saddlebags I put on it.

my 91 dr650s is pretty ez to start
i had a dr350 in years past it was a bear untill i read the instructions
before that a had a 81 xl500 not to bad to start
but the it465 was a new sort of pain in starting i broke the a boot kicking that one

now the sp200 i had was a dream if you did it by the book other wise it would kill the kicker gears

i wanted an sp600 but i can only ever recall seeing one ine charleston
the dealer here sold 10 or so where did they go

sp600

By the time I got My SP I had already had the a bunch of XL's 250/350/500 growing up, but the xl600 was probably the most finicky kicker in the world. i used to let my buddies beat themselves to death on that bikes kicker. if it wasnt dead on the top it would not start and when it was hot it would backfire occasionally and even i had trouble starting it. I will say being 6ft 200 pounds plus for most of my life never hurt when starting big singles. I love electric starters, but man I sure felt like Steve McQueen starting those big thumpers when no one else could.
