Old age and treachery, indeed.
That wasn't a full quarter mile either. Back in the mid '80s, I had an old Suzuki GT 380 (in line 3 cylinder, 2 stroke) that would only do 105 mph but, it would get there in a city block. I used to smoke (pun intended) 1000 ninjas & interceptors in an eigth mile sprint. Those guys usually looked like they were gonna cry as well but, in a full quarter mile race they would have shoved my face in the mud & sodomized me.

I doubt the Harley rat bike would have been too impressive against any 1000cc in line four, in a full quarter mile sprint. I've never ridden a Harley before & I got to admit I was surprised the Harley did so well in the short run they did. I'm not Anti-Harley though, I'm just not into cruisers. I could deffinately see myself on an XR 1200 or a V-Rod if a good deal came my way.

What did it look like before it was crash-tested?

Any of these two would do fine for today.

With windows down, you still wouldn't be able to hear it. The tires make more noise on the pavement than the bike does.
I rode a couple of them last year. At that point they still seemed like they needed a bit more development. Brakes were crap, suspension was really soft initially, than really harsh on any kind of bump. Very light though. Should be something really nice with a bit more work and range.

I want that retro-styled 1100 cc Honda, the one with the quarter fairing. I think it's the Mugen adaption. Looks to be still home market, Oz, & NZ only.

I know it will be a while before I can afford a new motorcycle, but I have really been liking the Moto Guzzi V7 classic and the triumph bonneville lately

You and I have similar tastes. I keep flirting with the idea of a Scrambler or a Bonneville T100, or a V7 classic. They all seem like they'd be great fun.

The major thing I am concerned about on the Guzzi is what happens to the bike if one happens to crash. I haven't seen any frame sliders or engine protection. Basically, there does not seem to be many aftermarket parts available for the Guzzi. But, the Bonneville has tons of aftermarket stuff.

MG Cycle has crash bars for the V7. But you're right...the aftermarket is a little slim for low-volume bikes like Guzzis.

I hadn't stumbled across that site before. Would definitely be good to know in case I ever get one.
