I have the hots for the new Ducati Hypertard 820 SP. It appears to be a very nice, all-around, balanced machine. The big question will be: What kind of gas mileage does it get, especially in regular commuting mode. Yes, I'm to the point where it matters. These bike folks have gotten more than enough of my money over the years. I want it all!

Cheap, theoretically dependable, logical. Ugh, Mondays.

I concur..cost effective, amazing gas mileage (if it meets projections up to 73mpg), and Honda reliability...hard to go wrong. I wonder if a 6'5" frame would be comfy on one? Guess I'll have to go by the shop to find out.

It is indeed. So, one can grab a six pack and put in the "tank." See? Logical.

yep. pop the pillion seat off to fill up.

Pretty short wheelbase, I dunno that I'd put much more than a rain suit in the topcase. Then again, with the big storage space in the faux tank, not sure I'd opt for the topcase anyway.

I'm 6'2" and I sat on one the other day. It was pretty damn comfy, actually. It also looks better in person. Of course, there's also this, as an option:

It has a "real" tank though.

Definitely not the same. But if you can get past the styling, the new VFR is a fantastic bike, IMO, and lightly used examples present a really good value in the sport-touring category.
