One of my favorite sailing clips. Disney sponsored Open 70, "Pirates of the Caribbean" in Volvo Round the World Race. Aparently it is faster than 40kts in some conditions.

I set up a blog for the boat restoration, in case anyone wants to follow it.

http://troop1183-buccaneer.blogspot.com/

We'll probably be a little while until it warms up just a bit before we tear into it with much passion.

Good luck with the project, I'll check in from time to time.

In the meantime, may I suggest you get the troop busy selling cookies.
I think you are going to need the doe $$$$

We have some dosh set aside from last year's fundraising, but I need to bump heads with the money man and figure out exactly what's in the budget, and what still needs to be raised. I'm not quite ready to go out and beg, but I'm not gonna turn down donations, either.

And the boys sell popcorn... I've bought enough cookies from my daughters, I'll be in them forever, I think. Frozen thin mints are the bomb.

Not yet. My preference is to find a 2-stroke 4hp, or something very close to that size, for a couple-three hundred if I can, by April. I cruise Craigslist every few days to see what's out there.

I have a Johnson 9.9liter 4 stroke, electric start with long shaft sitting in my garage for the last five years.
I'm toying with the idea of parting with it but I'm afraid that if I do I'll find a smoking deal on a >30 ft sailboat and might need it.

I'm not sure.
I had it on a Cal 27 which was a tank of a boat and the motor didn't struggle at all.

Well, that would more than meet our needs. Let me know if you decide to part with it, and how much you'd need to let yourself sleep at night about it.

Anything larger would be a waste, since I'm pretty sure I have a displacement hull, and 6 knots or so is about all you'll get, even with a 50hp in the back... just get a bigger bow wave in the process.

I'm thinking that you are not looking for a MacGregor 26X with a 50hp outboard on it.

What about some skiff footage? This is of the 49er which is now an Olympic class. Check out the smooth gybe at around 50 seconds followed by some wicked accelleration!
