How's Moab when you're on a pure street bike? Can you get to some nice places? We plan to go there next year, but my wife is more or less street only on bikes > 250cc ...

Didn't keep track. We lost alot of time with the flat. If we would have had the right tools
it would have not been that big of deal. I didn't think the large bores cost us riding time.
We did the last 50 miles in the dark. Man I was glad I had that light bar on front.

Fair. You can see some nice mesa views in town and red rock coming in. The great stuff is in away
from the slab. Gemini Bridges has been graded to the point you could take a street bike in.
Especially from the back side.

Interesting on the time. I read a trip report somewhere else where some big bores did it and and they were talking about not getting out of first gear very much, which seemed a little odd to me.

I rode it in May on my WR250R with my buddy on a DRZ400. We left our Hotel in downtown Moab about 8:30am and were back at the Hotel by 3pm. We made good time in places, also stopped to take a bunch of pictures, but were in no real rush.

First gear on a big bore is like third on your singles.

It was mainly first and second gear on the Beasts.

Thanks for the info - I'll keep that in mind. Not certain what bikes we'll do that trip on, but it might be more street bikes (R1200R, Tiger Roadie). So that really helps.

Hi Pluric,

I don't suppose you could knock up a quick Google Earth Track (a rough one would do) and take a screen print of it and then post, it could you ?
Just so we (i.e. me !) can see where the best places are to go. As you know I will be two up so if you could bear that in mind.

I am working on that part of my trip at present.

Having been to Moab a couple times. If you really want see some of the neat stuff. You can take a Jeep tour or rent a 4 -wheeler to see some of the neat stuff that would be tough on the ST two up.

You can also ride through Arches National park as it is all blacktop.

Thanks for the post but to be honest, (at present,) I am sick to death of 4x4s. We currently live out of one and have clocked up about 40k miles in the last 16 months. I will bear it in mind though as I will have done about 18k miles on the S10 by the time we get to Moab so the position may be reversed.

Aside from that I have warned SWMBO she is in for a rough ride.
