I love my 2002 model. Great all rounder.

This is what I want my Sportster to look like when it grows up .

Partook in a VFW event Sunday, honoring a Medal of Honor recipient, with a motorcycle escort.

And yes, we blocked traffic.

Uh-oh

Your pic is in the Killboy Failure fest thread over in the perfect line forum. Might want to go try and defend yourself.

Man, lemme tell you, a LOT of very surprised people in meatspace and cyberspace as I've been a longtime sportbike and dualsport rider. But still, for years I've called our Harley shop THE friendliest bike shop in town. Besides hosting many community functions they even dyno'd my Duc for free on my birthday a few years back. Oh and they have a free camp spot for all motorcycle travelers that includes access to a free showeroom. They gave me a killer deal on this 2011 Softail Deluxe in part because they think of finally getting me on a Harley as great PR in our riding community.

I can't even believe they let me ride it out of the shop through the Biketoberfest crowd. Talk about some trust! Below this photo of me heading out on a test ride last week I've included the video my brother shot of yesterday's departure. Let the good times roll, Mark H.

I love those leathers! The Harley people will embrace you immediately!

Normally she gets low 40's mpg running around town and easy highway cruising; 65-75 mph. I remember one specific day ride running with a south wind of 20+ I got 54 mpg running at 75 mph. The return leg at the same speeds I got 30 into the wind. So, it varies.
Thanks man that makes me feel better. I bought a 2010 FLHTP last year and saw all this crap on the net and in advertisements about E'Glides getting 50 mpg. Our first trip on it we averaged about 33 mpg on the highway @ 80-85 mph indicated 2 up and loaded lightly for a 4 day weekend. I've seen mid 40's solo on 2 lanes. I trhought I was out there on my own, good to know.

Stop shifting into 6th below 75mph and your fuel economy will go up. Your engine will oil better and last longer too.
3000-3100 rpm's is where they do best.

Agreed on the revs. And there's a spot above 80 mph where mpg takes a serious hit. I tracked mpg very closely on a long solo trip (camping gear). Worst was 33 mpg running 90 mph (on cruise) into a 20 mph sidewind across S. Dakota. High was 57 mpg running WITH a 15 mph tailwind in Idaho, high altitude, going 65 mph. Average for entire 11,000 mile trip was 43 mpg. Road GLide Ultra with the 103 and no mods.

The bat wing fairing is not the most aerodynamic front on a motorcycle. It's too flat to be efficient at speed. That forces more throttle to move it through the air. A head wind will kill your efficiency trying to maintain ground speed. I ride with a guy on who has a '09 Concourse that slips through the air. His mileage only goes down when he runs wide open. Mine goes down trying to keep up with him.
