My Harley

Hi Guys
Never thought I would find an HD thread here. Here is my 1984 Electra Glide
that I ride most of the year.

I currently ride a Suzuki gs500f. Fun ride. However, my knees give me trouble on long rides. I'm thinking of going with a cruiser so I can get a more relaxed sitting position. most of my rides would be commuting. I would like the option to go on longer trips once in a while with a decent amount of comfort. BTW, the Sporty would be the only H-D I could afford at this time.
Thanks.
Carefull there PJ. new sportsters can be much more expensive than the MSRP would sugest. Sure, many dealers are selling the bikes a MRSP now but there are always fees like set up and documentation and whatever else they want to charge. Typically they will NOT wave any of these fees. So, it might not be as cheep as you think. Once you get into the used market you might be able to find a Big Twin at a price that you can afford.

Good advice, Thanks Mr. Crumpy.
Here where I live, The dealer has the 883's at just under 9k and the 1200's are around 11k. This is the upper range of what I would want to spend on a bike at this time. I know the Sportster isn't considered a touring bike by todays standards, But I'm curious to know if a person could use a sportster to come up with a good commuter, that with a good saddle bag and tailbag system, good seat and windshield, could pull double duty as a small touring bike and not make me regret going on a trip. Or make my wife regret going on a day trip here locally.
Thanks.

I've done a SS1k on my 2001 xlh883, and I commute on it every day. Me & the SO can go for about 400mi/day 2-up.

I would recommend doing some research on xlforum.net or sportster.org. Very informative sites.

You can pick up a solid mount 883 for about 5 grand around here. They are fairly smooth.

A young lady in our HOG chapter just got top honors for putting 35K on her Sporty in 8 months. And she isn't a tiny gal either. So I guess its ok for some...

Thanks for the links,AZbiker.
Sounds like the 883 would probably do what I want.
Based on my riding in the last year, 90% was commuting and the other 10% was pleasure. I don't see this ratio changing much anytime soon. I can't really justify the extra $$ for a real tourer. That's why I'm looking at the Sporty. The bike I have now has maybe 40 HP, so either the 883 or 1200 would be a move up in HP. Thanks for all the input. I'll do some more searching on those two links you gave me.
Be safe.

Being broke does not disturb me in the least. I started with nothing and now I find myself with little to nothing, so I'm at least even. Plus, I had a wonderful time getting back to even.
