I'm about a month and 1100 miles late on this one. ...
Early June I pulled the trigger on a XR1200.

XR1200 "birthday". This bike is a ton of fun!

The sundowner and mid controls really make this Sporty all day enjoyable. Next task is to find a better low tone horn.
You have to paste into the icon that looks like mountains above the edit frame.

The wife has a Sporty (883L), and I've lowered it another inch in the rear. . The Sundowner doesn't work on her bike, as it leaves a gap between the tank and the seat. We have a corbin, but are still using the stock seat. I put engine guards on it (which she has already used once ) after this pic.

The seat is ok, haven't done any high mileage (>250) days yet.
The rear shocks suck! Any little square-edge bump and it bucks me off the seat. I just haven't decided what to replace them with yet.

Other than that, I LOVE this bike! Stable at speed and in cross winds, gets great gas mileage, and oh-so-fun in the twisties. And that's just my morning commute.

I'd be looking at Progressive (440?) shocks. I had Works, but the Progressives have much better rebound control.

LoriKTM,

I know you say the rear shocks suck. I wonder how I would feel coming from an 02 XLH Hugger.

merc16,

I traded in an 05 1200R for my XR1200, and I agree the shocks could be better, but they are a big improvement from the Roadster. I really like the XR, great fun.
