Since Nate contributed to his own thread hijack....

I owned this in the late 70's.
This is when I first got it.
Unfortunately, it's the only picture I have.

Daaayum. Nate, you're mah heeeeeroooow.

Doing it isn't the thing I admire - sticking with it till it's done is, and you're well on your way to that.

BTW, the danger of these type of threads is that you can read them while fucking off instead of working and it makes it seem so easy, so reasonable. If I had more parking, you'd be a dangerous influence.

Ok,,,I did a little tinkerin tonight.

I managed to get a welding appointment for Thursday and I'm determined to get the air system back on line.

I didn't make many mistakes taking this thing apart but this is one of them.

I wanted to remove all the wires from the A/C system but after I went after these with the sawzall I found out the feed for the compressor runs with them too.

So I'll be bringing my soldering iron home from work tomorrow and fix er right up.
At least the wires are coded so it was easy to match them back up.

This beam is replacing one I should have done before I moved the rear body section forward.
I didn't realise how f#@ked up the other one was until it was too late anyway.
These beams are an odd size though 2" X 2 +3/4. All I can get is 2X3" so I had to scab this one from the floor section I didn't use.

At this point when I look back I can't believe I was going to use this for the bed.

There's no way it could ever look as good as this.

Here's a stoopit question: insteada building wheel wells, why not just stick a 2x3 piece of steel under the frame of the bed? That way you have a flat surface over the wheels...

Make fabbing that whole diamond plate 'bed' easier, no?

I may do just that.
I want the height of the fifthwheel hitch low though so the raised area would be over the wheels only.

If I go with shaped wheel wells they don't have to be very big so less metal would be needed.

We'll see.

I'm glad you decided to scrap the old bed. I thought it was hokey, but didn't want to butt in The rear is looking mighty dope man!

Sorry for what?

I welcomed people to post pics if they had a similar project some time ago.

Like I said before,,,I'd complain if things got out of hand.

Everything that's been posted so far is cool including your pics and comentary.

Besides your pics are already quoted and are here for good now.

It would've looked better than that if I went that route,,,,I was going to blend it into the existing body and it would've been finished off.

What I have now IS definitely better though.

I repaired the wiring for the compressor and hooked the airbags back up tonight.

The ride height is just right.

Did you get the final location of the carrier bearing figured out with full ride height?
