One question. Since a fifth wheel usually mounts over the rear axle, are you planning on shortening the frame?

I am in for this. Long thought about some sort of similar project myself but just do not have the room to pull it off and then store it right now.

No,,,,the axle is moving back about three feet.

Hey Nate, looking good! I can totally see your vision and it certainly makes great sense to me. As the former owner of the bus, you have my endorsement

I don't think these guys understand just how small the back of the bus is and how you could haul three, maybe four bikes and then have very little passenger space. Hell, I can haul three bikes in my Sprinter and maybe haul three people and gear but it would be tight.
