Thanks Fred. As kenny61 pointed out there are a number of programs for viewing the EXIF data or you could just follow the link back to my smugmug page and hit the info button. I generally leave the info attached to the photo so anyone can see if interested, trust me, no big secrets as to my technique and I've learned a lot from viewing others.

Basically except the last photo I was shooting 30 sec exposures wide open (F3.5) at ISO 1600-3200. I tried others but this was the best compromise for noise. I've got a remote shutter release ordered so I can try bulb mode next time for longer exposures at lower ISOs, right now 30sec is the longest my camera will do with the standard shutter release.

This outing just wet my appetite to experiment more with this sort of thing.

I have shot many shots like these too but even at iso100 too much noise.
I will have to try 1600 and see how that works.

Also your f stop was 3.5 for all three shots is this wide open for that lens?

Thanks for the info

Fred

Yeah 3.5 is wide open, it's just a kit lens(18-55) Planning to upgrade at some point, but still figuring out how much money in glass I want to carry around on my bike

I'm going to run the risk of starting a war here (not my intention) but I recently switched to Nikon from Canon specifically for quite an advantage in dynamic range and low noise in comparable sensors. Of course in processing the Raw image I applied quite a bit of noise reduction software as well as limiting the size you get to view it at, there's still noise there, just an acceptable amount to me for the situation. I'd still like to do better.

I'm going to assume if you don't like 100 on your camera you'll probably hate 1600.

Still learning how to do night photography. My biggest issue is focus. How do you focus properly? "Infinite" focus doesn't always do the trick. Would be great to have some advice.

Meanwhile, a few pictures taken at a hut in the swiss alps. No bikes in the pictures, they were standing a few hundred meters away, there's no road going to the hut.

This one was taken by Margus while visiting me at the end of a 3-year RTW tour he and his wife Kariina did on their BMW.

^^That is a great shot, crazy eye catching angle!^^

Here is a bridge I found, read somewhere it is the most photographed bridge on the Lincoln Highway.
Maybe in the daytime, but I had to take one at night.
