The leaves are changing up here like crazy already. Going to stay in the backwoods away from the peepin' leafers on the "main roads" but can't want to see some more Adirondack Autumn pics from Prometheus, and I live here!!!!!!!!!!

Having been stationed at Rome(Griffiss AFB), NY, when I returned from Vietnam in the Summer of 1970....I quickly had to learn to adapt to the situation. With 300+ inches of snow that first year(winter of 70-71) I learned how to Snow Ski at Snow Ridge in Turin, and the next summer I along with my buddy, the Late Jack Friedl, learned how to Cliff Jump(no way in Hell was I diving head first) at Delta Lake, and the second winter honed my skills at Snow Mobiling...add trout fishing to that, I enjoyed the land so much I stayed on an extra year after my discharge, bartending, and enjoying the outdoors and clean air(away from Rome/Utica anyway) before finally figuring out I had to learn how to make a living and headed back to Ohio in the fall of 73 entering Ohio University.

Thanks for the Memories/Photos/and personal mental butt kicking..

Although it's gray, raining and dreary today we had an incredible run of fall weather, 10 or 11 days of blue skies, perfect temperatures and gorgeous colors. I took off early for Vermont on one of those days

To catch the colors

Along Route 30 These caught my eye

Curious as to the story behind these I googled it

Stratton Mountain Golf Course

And a short 30 second clip riding around the Stratton area

Ghost Towns

I recieived a pm from an inmate with some questions about a route he has planned for next year to see a ghost town Tahawus in the Adirondacks.

the route was :
Blue ledge road
to a right on gulf brook road
n.w. to Adirondack park
continue to trout pond road west .4 miles
continue on perch pond road 1.6 miles
right onto Adironadack park
left onto Tahawus rd

Although I've ridden this area dozens of times I never heard of Tahawus . doing a bit of research it seemed like all the roads I was unfamiliar with were county maintained roads .

As some of his buddies are on sport bikes he wondered if the roads were OK for them

So i thought I'd scout it out for him and maybe even see a zombie or two

And last Saturday (which was a magnificent day for riding) I slabbed it to North Hudson, turned left on Blue Ridge and 7 miles up turned right onto Gulf Brook

Now this looks promising

And indeed it was, for about 24 seconds

Apparently they like their locks up here

And beyond the gate it looked even better

I then punched Tahawus into the GPS with no results so apparently Ghost Towns are invisible to some modern technology

So do a 180 and back down to continue further up Blue Ledge to seek an alternate route

Then I thought I should have taken a picture from the top of the hill on Gulf Brook so I pulled a U, stopped at the bottom and hoofed it up the hill

One more stop on Blue Ledge

And I headed in search of ghosts

I rode some new to me roads and I will say they offered some of the finest scenery I have seen in the Adirondacks

to be continued....

You have not been to Tahawus? If you want to go this weekend I would be up for meeting you somewhere in the park.

Otherwise you can turn left off of 28N by the Newcomb cemetary onto the county road then stay left when you see the signs for upper/lower works. The county road between Newcomb and North Hudson is a real nice ride and I almost always meet other bikes on it, but hardly any other traffic because folks stick to the "main roads" through the park when travelling by car.

EDIT::

I did not see the "to be continued..." part!!! sorry :)
