IIRC the altrider is a little nicer looking, but the CJ's is a little bigger. If you're going to mount a top box I'd say CJ designs (or a winch LOL). If you're going to strap a softbag on I'd probly do the altrider one.

I'm too lazy to go find a pic of each to show them side by side. Mine has been covered up with a box since I got it. I think they're pretty similar in price too, maybe a bit more from altrider...they're pretty proud of their stuff.

Im pretty sure im just gonna grab a pelican 1550 I think it for a top box, but it will be mainly for some rotopax for the long trip in conjunction with the kriega overlander 60 in I choose to keep the 4 bags mounted to it

The Pirelli Trails are all V-rated, although there is a choice of H as well for the front. Same question would apply there.
I don't think you would notice any difference.

There we go...side by side.
Now I remember, the altrider one has turned down sides and is wider forward tapering back. It's a more streamlined piece and a little better looking with nothing on it IMO.
The CJ Designs one is full width, a little heavier duty, and works better for mounting a top box, particularly a seahorse, pelican or storm case. Oh yeah, and it has a 3-position mounting although I'm not sure why anyone would change it once it fits behind the seat. Maybe for different top boxes and such to give room on the pillion seat.
Both mount the same way and do the same thing. The CJ ones come black PC now as well. I got a raw one from him at a discount so it was a no brainer for a topbox.
Pic yer poison.

The CJ Designs rack is great, and yes, will mount a Rotopax nicely. I used one on my Labrador/Newfoundland trip last year.

Damn you!

I've been tempted to buy the SW-Motech rack w/ the extensions to better support my Wolfman tail bag, but figured I didn't really need it just yet and was trying to save my money. I was also wondering how my OEM 50L bag would fit on that rack. After reading the description for the AltRider, it seems like I may be able to swap over to my 50L pretty easily, plus have the option of adding a Rotopax in the future if I want.

Order placed...

Brake Pads?

EBC or OEM's???

I'm at 8200 and the rears are getting pretty thin. Thought I would order some out so I have them when I look down and they're paper thin.

Any pros and cons to report?

The EBC are about 20% cheaper but they're so close it's not worth it either way if one is much better. The OEMs are quiet, someone posted on a product review that the EBC's squeaked on their bike. That could be from something else though.

I put EBC on front and back for about $60 I think. Braking power seems greater and only minor increase in noise but it's not a squeaking sound, more like a hum or whirl sound. Not annoying and this for me is common with EBC pads. I sometimes get a little bit of a chatter noise on the back if I slowly let off the back brake at a slow speed but not annoying and many probably wouldn't even notice. I can't think of any reason not to use the EBC pads.

Because many people jump to buy something new and those people usually go through a lot of bikes so it's time for them to move on. Someone posted the same question a few months ago regarding the Tenere. Normal and you'll notice this about many bikes. What are you concerned about? Do you see people posting about catastrophic failures with their tigers?

Depending on what the 2014 tiger 800 looks like and also if Yamaha uses their triple for a ~800cc tiger-like bike I may be changing my Roadie for an XC so more used bikes on the market is fine by me.
