Yeah, disappointing.

What the heck are they supposed to make 2 wheels a frame and an engine look like?

It's not like there's much that can be done. It could be a lot worse I suppose:

To me the biggest advantage is that it is not a BMW.
I liked the 800GS concept, but not BMW quality/reliability, service network nor the general BMW take it to the dealer for everything crap.
I have never tried a triumph triple yet so I don't know how I feel about that side.
I tried a Buell and found I did not care for that much character and soul.
I truely wish Suzuki had built this type bike, but I'll give Triumph a shot.
At least the nearest dealers are closer than 6 hours away.

Could be worse but all the bikes in the upper class don't seen to suffer from copy-cat syndrome - Buell Ulysses, Triumph Tiger, BMW GS, Yamaha TDM, Aprilia Caponord, Honda Transalp, Guzzi Stelvio, Binelli Tre-K, Ducati Multistrada, Suzuki V-Strom, etc..........

I recon Triumph have seen the sales figures for the 800 BMW and want a piece of that action so didn't take any risks - shame.

I really hope the 1200 version has a mind of its' own.

I have to say, I am slightly disappointed now that the official pictures have leaked, I can't quite put my finger on why, but after all the hype I think I was expecting to be knocked off my feet by this bike. It is a good looking bike, although rather generic, and I am sure it will be a great ride, It has the advantage of having a triple motor, which should lend it some character and make it feel a bit more special than some run of the mill adventure bikes, but over all, I don't know, I am just underwhelmed.

I know this has been suggested before, but I think Triumph have shot them selves in the foot with this. I think they have simply left us waiting for too long. The pictures I found this morning (thanks to a fantastic Italian site I use) are as far as I know "leaked" so they do not represent Triumph finally releasing concrete evidence of the bike, in fact it would seem that Triumph are still steadfastly sticking to their guns and will not officially release any information until the Milan show in November. You only have to look at this thread to see what the effect of leaving us so long without releasing and official information on the bike has done; 53 pages of speculation, that has to be some sort of record, the bike hasn't even been officially revealed to the public yet and already it has produced a thread that is longer than the threads some bikes have acquired after being on the road for 10 years!

The result of this I am sure is that there will now be other people in the same situation as me, finding them selves left wanting after their first proper glimpse at the finished product. Now I know that this could all be cured by a test ride, but as it stands the withholding of information on this bike for so long has allowed speculation and expectations to go wild. I hope Triumph learn a lesson from this, teasing potential customers for so long is a fine knife edge to be walking along. Honda seem to understand this, they didn't release information on their new crossover bike until last week, and it will be shown in production form (for the smaller capacity version at least) at Milan, by then it will have only had about 3 weeks of public exposure and therefore expectations for it will not have had a chance to get out of control.

Maybe they wanted an 800cc version of their Tiger....Looks like a Tiger to me!

Looks okay. I'd consider the road version in white or the XC in red. Looks like there only about an inch of seat adjustment (the road version seat is shown in lower position, the XC in the high position).

Maybe it's just me but the steering geometry looks very road orientated, the front end on both bikes looks quite low.

Also what does the beak do?? Honestly what the hell is it for?

If there's any price difference, I'd take the road version (assuming it's the cheaper of the two). No beak, less money AND better handling on the road (it's it anything like the F650/F800) - it's win win all the way.

If Honda understand, it's only because they made the same mistake with the VFR1200, which was leaked, teased and hinted at for (literally) years, before being revealed to general disappointment and a collective "meh".

I agree with you that the 6 month teaser campaigns have to stop, otherwise expectations rise to silly levels that could never be fulfilled. Triumph should have stayed mum about this apart from the fact it's coming until around late August, then slowly released bits and bobs until the official unveiling at Milan in Nov.
