Recently finished an 1,800 mile loop, from Vegas across to the coast north of San Francisco, up to Ft. Bragg, back across by Lake Tahoe to central Nevada and back home, total of 8 days. This is what the Hayabusa is made for.
![]() ![]() Have just about worn out a set of Bridgestone BT-023's. They've been great, no complaints. Have some Michelin Pilot Road 2's to mount up next and try out. Coming up on 15,000 miles soon, about time to do that first valve check.

I've seen a low of 42 mpg, and a high of 54. Mostly between 45-50 for normal riding (not exceeding the speed limit by more than will land you in jail).
![]() For reference, my bike is totally stock engine wise.

Never been on a bike with that ridiculously low consumption at speed, myself. A stock gen1 will burn more or less 6-7 lt/100Km doing 150-200 km/hr. And that is with +2 teeth on the rear sprocket.

That's about 34-40 mpg, running pretty fast (about 90-125 mph for us Yanks). You say +2 on the rear sprocket, so that is geared down, so spinning higher rpm than stock gearing. I can believe that.
The low figure of 42 I quoted was for a stretch of about 100 miles running around 90 mph most of the way. The higher numbers I am getting are riding with my wife, who rides pretty slow, so cruising around at about 60 mph average speeds. My bike is stock engine, stock exhaust, stock gearing.

Havent torn it down yet but I pooped the motor on my 99 on wednesday. Gonna have to do a small turbo now. Been talking to a friend and will be going with an RCC Stage one kit. Should push about 230-250 Ponies to the wheel. Gonna be a while because that kit's a significant investment ($4350 to start)

Gonna roll the beast up onto the workstand and check valve clearances soon. Anyone who has done it have any tips/comments?
It'll be my first time on a Busa.(I've done valves on lots of bikes, not afraid to pull cams, and have a manual, just looking for any "insider" tips from the wise ones here) Edit: Nice blue model BrookTrout.
