Hi,
we rent it the last 2 years from POP. But Mr. Mechanic good to. POP is a very big company. All the shops for rent are near Tapae Gate. The rate is about 600-800 Baht per day. When you use GPS then you can do some very good tours. If you not use it then you must look for tours with signs or make a tour with guide (mr mechanic). I like the tours near Chiang Rai, Mae Salong and Thaton (the armee colapsed road on the border). Also very nice is the tour from pai to Doi Ang Khang, to Fang and Thaton. Another good tour goes from Chiang Rai to Mae Sai on the highway and back on the burma-border via Doi Tung. From Chiang Mai you can do "warm up" tours. the first one: Up to doi suthep, to Doi Pui, 2 km back and the dirt road to the coffe farm, to Huai Ting Tao lake for lunch. |

If you have a Garmin or compatible ,
try to get the "Thailand Street map 10 EN" It covers even the most small Dirtroads . You can get it in Bangkok at Ma Bu Kong Shopping Center ( 3rd Floor ) but the Shop is between the 500 Telefon Shops not easy to find . or at Seacon Sqare Shopping Center (Basement)

Thanks, I am heading up through bangkok but am not sure how long ill have to look around before heading up to chiang mai. I have ordered the gt-rider maps but they have pulled the pin on the north thailand gps routes and are only covering laos with gps routes now. Sorry for the thread hijack.
