Dirtdabber: To my friends here in Georgia, I promise not to bring shame and embarassment to our fine state......I have made all reservations claiming to be a resident of South Carolina.

Land: Oh, and they'll know you aren't really from SC. Yep, they'll know.

That's a funny clip, Fido.

N. E. Whey ....

I made it to WestFest about an hour and a half ago. I'm set up in the trees in an overwatch position above the shenanigans.

I guess that I didn't meet my goal of getting this ride report caught up before I got here.

I will take you from Colorado Springs, back up to Denver, out to the Pacific through Utah, Idaho and Oregon. It may take a while. Are you on board for that?

Chris

Maybe Clay should reconsider that South Carolina reference.
Fido, did you know that she is Jack Bass' sister? That makes it even funnier. My mother is from North and the Bass family ran a store there.

Land, enjoying your RR! I don't think you've seen my offer over in the SC TOR thread.

Uh oh. I haven't looked in over there lately.

I thought of you and Speedy Tuesday when I shot a photo of some old steam engine on the Oregon coast.

Today marks four weeks on the road. This report on at week 1.5 or so.

Chris

I'm running a little behind in my ride report. ;-)

Right now, I'm at WestFest listening to Sgt. Marty stories firsthand.

I'll get back to reporting soon.

Chris

You can be as late with your report as you need, just making sure we didn't need to go search the sides of the road for ya.

I should get this thing going again, I guess. WestFest was fun, BTW. I'll get you there eventually.

We rolled out of Colorado Springs July 5 for Denver. We superslabbed it on I-25 for a while, then turned onto CO 105 after Monument.

That's where we saw the elephants, proving that you don't have to go to Africa or Asia for that.

Okay, okay. But you don't have to go to Africa or Asia to see elephants. These were in little ol' Larkspur, CO.

Every time we go to a little festival like this, Mary Elizabeth goes in search of REAL cotton candy, as she calls it. That shipped-in-in-a-plastic-bag stuff won't do for this girl. She wants it freshly spun, right before her eyes. She was happy to finally find it in Larkspur. It really has been years since either of us has seen spun-on-the-spot cotton candy.

We set up in a hotel in Denver and went to Red Rocks Amphitehatre for a concert by the Denver Symphony Orchestra. We didn't take a real camera, so all I have for you is a crappy cellphone pic.

The next morning, we took the hotel's free shuttle to the 16th Street Mall to spend our last day in Denver before Mary Elizabeth flew home.

It was a great day. We stopped into Coyote Ugly for a quick drink during happy hour. About five hours later, we cabbed back to the hotel because the hotel's free shuttle had stopped running. Hours ago.

I just have crappy cellphone pics from Coyote Ugly. Yeah, I know.

The next morning, Mary Elizabeth flew out of Denver International for home in South Carolina. It was great having her along for a week of the trip. We had a blast.

Next, I'll take you on west.

Stay tuned.

Chris

Chris, if you or any of you other FF's are in the mood for a Coyote Ugly style place to go more local to the Palmetto State, check out the Market Street Saloon in North Charleston, right off of I-26, and, more importantly, only 10 minutes away from my place.

Now catch us up on this RR, as you seem to be on the only SC ADV'er that travels much of anywhere on a bike.

So LandWife was on an airplane headed south and east, and I started working my way north and west.

I spent that Wednesday (July 7) and Thursday knocking around a few towns and dirt roads off I-70.

In and around Central City, CO.

Main Street, Silver Plume, CO

On out I-70, on a frontage road. There was a big traffic jam from a wreck on 70 westbound just a few yards in front of the fisherman when I took this pic.

I went back through Breckenridge and up to Alma, then turned on the road to Mosquito Pass. The pass itself was closed, but I thought that I'd see what there was to see out there, anyway.

This is where I thought it best to turn my heavily laden GS around. I was tempted, but I ultimately wimped out.

(Yeah, you've seen this one before as a teaser.)

We'll go on west -- and north and west -- but right now, I need to check out of this motel in Hungry Horse, MT, and head into Glacier National Park.

Stay tuned,
Chris
