A few years ago I weighed two does because they had a bet who would shoot the largest. I losers does weighed 180 pounds. The other was 185.

My son his wife and my new born (2 months old) grand daughter came in yesterday from Hunter Army air field, when he got here he said Dad i have not got to deer hunt in 2 years, do you think we can hunt, we took a deer stand and put it up in the neighbors woods next to the pasture behind my barn, there was good deer sign there, he got in there at 7am this morning, by 8:30 he had this small 6 pointer.
He is happy and i am too, i had rather him get one than me right now.

This Year
With Bow

2nd With my rifle at 300+yrds

My 3rd With Rifle...He was the best trophy....I donated him to a needy family...their gratitude was the best reward a hunter could ask for.

Here's one I passed on a couple years ago.

Here are a few I let pass by.

This one was about 30 yards. The leg of the other deer is also an 8pt buck:

This buck was about 10 yards from me. All his interest was in a doe that was nearby:

He then followed the doe onto the road:

These three were about 100 yards (notice another bow stand right behind the big buck):

These three bucks were fighting over a doe:

You have to let smaller bucks like these go hoping to get something larger:

Thanks. I used a Pentax K-x (discontinued and replaced by the K-r) and a cheap Sigma 70-300 APO DG lens. Most shots were in the 270mm range.

I have more photos further down the page in the "A Mule Deer Morning " post.
