Got a forester airtight. Been heating the house with it for 6 years, but I don't lean guns on it

Only good reason to burn wood, here in Western PA, is to get the coal started.

Did you get a permit to burn dead trees?

wood burning insert

Works great, 250lbs. of gutbusting fun to install though.

When I bought my house, it had a fireplace with a crappy draft. Smoky fires and no heat to speak of.

In '03, I tore out the old hearth, built a new one with soapstone tile, and plopped a Hearthstone stove on top of it. Much better.

It easily heats my whole (1200 square foot) house -- the hard part is keeping it going when I'm gone all day long. Plus, if I look for it I can always find free wood (last picture) -- I go through about 2.5 cords of wood a year. Winter utility bills now = $50.

Know anything about Vermont Soapstone Stoves VF? I was looking into them last winter, seemed like a good product and if their claims are true one would be enough to heat my old clapboard on those sub-zero mornings around here.

I do not.

What, I'm a stove expert now, just 'cause I'm from Vermont?
