Trailer Awareness!

anyone have a suggestion to remind me I have an empty bike trailer behind the truck, since i can't see it even the side mirrors until it to late. i was thinking maybe some sort of fiberglass rod with a flag like the 4wheelers use.

You see a lot of large RVs towing small vehicles with a flag attached as an indicator. A convex mirrow or rear camera would be good.

How about one of those after-market back-up cameras? That would have uses besides just reminding you the trailer is back there.

I added an upright 1/2" pipe to the back end of my trailer..about 18" above the trailer sides. On the top I mounted a " mast top light" . It's wire to the position light circuit. ( I had the light in my junk bucket) . If I were redoing it I would change it over to a smaller powered led other wise it worked great!

I have some trailer keys (hitch lock, spare tire, etc.) on a key ring/wrist band thing that I hang on the rear view mirror (on the windshield).
So everytime I look in that mirror I see them, or I suppose a piece of tape on that mirror with TRAILER written on it would work too
Or even one of those Fresnel lens stick on things, like you had on the rear window of your shag wagon

Kind of like the bike rack on the roof verses the garage door deal

i'm thinking fiberglass driveway marker pins. they are 4' and 6' lengths. might be out of stock since it is a winter item at some stores.

+1

I have mine hooked up to a switch on the dash instead of to the reverse switch so I can use it to supplement my rear view mirror. It's been handy for multiple situations, including not backing over little kids. I can back the ball right under the receiver without a spotter, and keep an eye on the load while going down the road.

Put a sticker on your forehead that says "reliarT", and every time you look in the rearview mirror, you'll see it and remember.

Buy a small car. Even with an empty trailer my focus never lets me forget its back there.

+1 That's what I did on my 4x8 trailer. Home Depot, bright orange with reflective band at the top. You can take apart a heavy duty gate hinge to hold the rod and bolt it to the trailer frame.

I had a sea doo trailer I could not see if the sea doo was unloaded. It was really hard to back if you could not see it.

I purchased something like this set of trailer guides:

Just replace the PVC pipe with the length you need.

Since I was thinking about a backup camera anyway it seems like the best option to do.
But really having the dangling trailer lock keys on the mirror would work.
Thanks guys great ideas.

You can see yourself in your mirrors?
