Versys black parts

Thought the same thing. I'm wondering what the black pieces would cost to slap on my '11.

Motosport prices (not necessarily the best, but easy to look up):

And these are prices for the '11 as they don't have the '12s up yet.

Headlamp cover $66.73
Left pivot cover $34.65
Right pivot cover $34.65
Right radiator cover $66.73
Left radiator cover $66.73

Total $269.49
Not that bad on the prices. Aerosal spray cans would work for awhile but you know they will start to chip.

Worth it? Not first on the list for me, but probably somewhere down the road.[/QUOTE]

I thought the same thing when I rattle-canned the panels on my KLR with the truck bed liner from Lowe's. But it's held up for three years.

Thinking about doing the exact same thing to mine. If you want to go with OEM parts, check
http://www.powersportswarehouse.com/

They're far cheaper than Motosport. Rocky Mountain has started carrying OEM parts again but they're still not as cheap as PW. I did a small spreadsheet comparing the three of them and PW was 20+% cheaper than RM and 30+% cheaper than Motosport.

Also been thinking about the spray paint thing and looking at the Krylon Fusion paint which is for plastic and *supposed* to hold up to flexing and the like. It gets good reviews everywhere I've looked and is available in flat, glossy and "satin" black.

I may play around with photoshop and see if I can get a good idea of what it'll look like.

Granted, not a '10+, but you get the idea.

Here is my Versys.

It's For Sale, but I'm having second thoughts.

That looks good. I'm going to keep the dark red on mine and change the silver plastic parts to black, I think. Not going to buy $250 worth of plastic to do it, but may invest in some Krylon Fusion to give it a try.

Fusion works ok. It's more of a dye for plastic that paint. But if it's over a light color any chips show up like crazy. Did the grill panels on a car and the leading edge is vulnerable to chips and they show up pretty quick. On the bike will probly be okay.

For long term new platic would be a better alternative. Or just leave it.

Thanks. Good info. I'm $5-10.00 interested in changing the silver plastic parts to black, but not $250+ interested yet.

Be prepared to buy new plastic then. If it chips or looks like poop you won't be able to get all of the new finish off.

The factory color isn't black either, it's kind of a gun-metal gray, similar to the engine cases. All black just doesn't look that great IMHO. A few have done it, you might search over on the owners forum.

It's not enough of a "want" at this point to be shopping for paint or plastic. Just thought it would look a bit nicer. And, yeah, I noticed the '12 plastic wasn't a "true" black. I do like the way it looks though. If I somehow damaged some of the plastic, I'd look harder at replacing it with the newer pieces.
