In Palm Springs California, Help please!

I am looking for some simple SUV trails in the area of Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage etc...

The story. I usually drive out to Barstow with my WR450 or whatever and then ride in the desert. Then back to Barstow for the day until I ride again in the eveing. Well, my wife doesnt quite understand the concept.

So a few months ago we were in Phoenix and I thought we would take one of those jeep back country tours. What a rip off!!! The roads were okay but for the amount of $$$ and only for an hour I was not pleased and nor was my significant "you know who".

So we are out in Palm Springs and I would like to take the family out in the Suburban on some decent roads to get away from the asphalt. No rock climbing. No crazy stuff. Basically a jeep tour in the comfort of my '99 Chevy 2 wheel drive. Not looking for technical.

Just a couple of hours is cool. Maybe a dirt road to connect different highways of towns? I cant really see anything on Google. And my search on ADV isnt helping a lot.

Any of you folks able to help?

My exhaust must sound awesome when I pass you. Calspeed

Not a SUV trail but, take them up to Apple Hill above Yucaipa for some food and to enjoy the view of the...smog.
R1200RT (R1100RT gone)
KLR650 - gone

Gotcha covered Cafe guy. Head up highway 74 then take Santa Rosa Mountain road to the top of the mountain. Enjoy the views and the cool mountain air, then drive back down. Picnic maybe?
