It's like in the movie 'the right stuff' where the scientists called the astronauts 'occupant persons', or Yeager referred to them as 'spam in a can'.

Yer just along for the ride.

FWIW, Tony Foale played around with (and documented in his book(s)) diminishing rake and trail, to the point he even modified a bike to play with the ideas:

He's riding a 15* rake in that last photo. The end consensus was the same as yours, there are NO perfect/magical numbers... he just took it to an extreme. Great reading for those who are interested in the topic though (there might be better out there, I kinda fell out of the loop about a decade ago).

I'm coming to this party late, but just finished reading the whole thread...

...OK, I looked all the pictures, giggled at the swear words where I caught 'em, and read some of Jinxy's professorial screeds.

And I am loving this bike! If you keep this up, you're gonna make me want a Guzzi - and I fuckin' hate Guzzis!

Welcome aboard, Sys!

While I didn't hate Guzzis before, this thread has definitely thrown a wrench in the "what bike project do I want?" machine.

Heh Colin,

The AM 22/23 that I have on my unit are "SC" or "Street Compound" (AM23SC). As far as I can tell looking around in the various sources, the SC's are not available anymore, just the straight AM22 & 23 non-DOT race tires & don't know what they would be like on the street.

When the AM22-23 that are on there need to be replaced, I think I`ll go with Avon Roadriders.

George

george! good to see you in "the build thread" and on advrider! please kick my ass around a bit if things aren't to your liking.

--------------------------------------------------------
for those who don't know of geodoc or his bikes... well you obviously aren't a guzzi person! two of his bikes have been posted in this thread for reference. i have no difficulty saying they are two of the finest examples of modified guzzis in the world. the green bike in particular is a work of art. for me there is one additional bonus... he lives very close to me and is an all round good guy who has been free with passing on what he has learned... invaluable information to me!

i've tried my best to absorb as much as i can, but as shown with the tires my wires sometimes get a little crossed... geodoc then joins advrider and signs on to point my ass in the right direction... cool, eh?
--------------------------------------------------------

ass kiss session over! welcome to advrider george!

Bravo, aulde chap.

One of the best summaries of the causes, effects and vagaries of chassis geometry that I've read.
