Continuing on....it's still Monday, July 26th, following The Great Divide or Continental Divide Trail.

We hit pavement again just before Pinedale, Wy

The divide itself is actually atop that mountain range over yonder....

We fueled and grabbed a snack in town and immediately to the South we were back on dirt....heading directly into a thunderstorm! Lightning and all ...we stopped and considered a reroute for safety's sake.

A closer look at the track showed that we didn't have to go over that hill into the storm after all....the track followed a two track out across the sage away from the storm!

Cow pies were initially the only obstacle...

This two track was one of my favorite parts of the CDT terrain wise .....but I was still concerned that that could change real quick if things got wet. Me being on a street bike with street tires and all!

merickk was having a little trouble keeping that gas can tied down in the rougher terrain.

There was a technical little climb up ahead....no pics though as "I had to keep my momentum up, man!"

I really like this pic. I was stoked to be riding here but skeered of getting caught in a muddy hell if the storm caught us!!

We even had to pass through one gate out there. Back East gates mean that you're tresspassing ....out here there's a sign that says "please close the gate"

I was going as fast as I could (one handed) but didn't have a chance of keeping up with those guys on the thumpers out in this stuff.

Although this is about as close as I care to get to another riders dust anyway!

Well survived that primitive but very cool two track without getting caught in the rain and mud...but soon afterwards I could smell gas.

So much for those extra two gallons.....his tire done rubbed a hole in 'em!

We then got on some well maintained dirt where we could easily run 60 to 70

As evening approached we began to think about a campsite....it wouldn't be easy to just pitch tents out in the middle of all that sage!...not to mention in the wind that was picking up with the storms behind us.

There was plenty of antelope and cattle out on the open range....

We just kept hammering away on the long lonely road hoping to find a little oasis of shelter.....

All this wide openness was quite a change from the closed in tight woods I'm used to back East, so I was just soaking it all in knowing that it would all be over with too soon...

We had literally been running from that line of clouds all day long...and thankfully we were winning the race!

It was almost like living in a dream for me.....

So we stop and regroup at this little overlook and talk about our camping situation....

...and wouldn't you know it just up the road we spy a little two track that goes in behind a little rock formation and down to a creek. Sheltered from the wind and out of view of the road.

Yeah....we're living like cowboys now!!

I started getting suspicious when I saw this go down... For sure, that was one strange day.

I can't post too many of merickk's scenery pics cause they all may be better than mine!

But you know that you're going to get all the action shots!!
