Where is Blanchard Pass? Is it the road over towards Elk, runs past Stoneridge?

Blanchard Pass

Hey IdahoRenegade,

If you take highway 41 from Post Falls through Spirit Lake and continue northwest, you'll ride into the little community of Blanchard about 5 miles beyond Spirit Lake. I believe the Blanchard pass road goes north from there, takes you just east of Hoodoo Mtn (5119') and dumps you off on Dufort Road on the south side of the Pend Oreille River. At that point Priest River is ~5-10 miles west of you. I've never been there; got this information from my Benchmark Map of ID.

from what I can see of the mountains to the north of me, I would doubt that the snow has melted off the top of the pass yet.

Blanchard pass in no way passable. There is tons of snow just off the highway. It is going to be a while this year until we can hit FS roads.

OK, I know exactly where you're talking about. We're running the quads from Blanchard to Priest River over that route Saturday. Or at least we're gonna try, I'm sure there will still be a lot of snow up high. Will try to get pics and post them...I highly doubt we'd be able to get bikes there yet. Thanks.

I live out that way, may just go out and explore some county gravel roads Sunday. Figured a ride down past Vay, Clagstone and out the Bunco to see how deep the snow is would be a start. Then maybe down to Ohio match and see if it's clear behind Hayden Lake.

I'm not looking at a map but I think Blanchard Pass is actually the road that runs passed Stoneridge over to Elk. At least that's what I have always called that road and I think the one PNW Buttercup is talking abuot. Of course I have been known to be wrong.

The dirt road from Blanchard over the mountain to Priest River is a Forest Service road and goes over Hoo Doo Mountain. It's the one we kept playing on last year but being stopped by ice, snow, mud......

After the third attempt we made it to Hoo Doo but came back down just N. of Blanchard rather than in Priest River like I wanted to do.

Be sure to let us know what the snow conditions are up there.

As far as what I call Blanchard Pass that might be fine since it's plowed in the winter.

LB is correct... the pass between Blanchard and Elk. However, I may be headed to Calispel Lake in Pend Orielle County -- the Tundra Swans are migrating and I want to get up there and take a peek...

It would be nice to know if that itty bitty hill is snowed in though.

Did you ride up to the towers and come down past them? That's the way I'm familiar with that dumps you out N. of Blanchard. Kind of a sporty section of trail on that. At least by my wobbly standards.

Yep, that was it and there was a section my wobbly standards wimped out and I asked some else to get my bike through it. It was only a few yards but knowing I couldn't touch if the bike started to go over I stopped and asked for an assist. Thankfully the guys are always good to me.

If I don't acknowledge it, it doesn't exist.
