I could ride the XT225 on a little bike ride but I'm not sure I have the patience to ride it to Avery and back.
You better go for one of your other bikes then.

The Calder Store also has a resturant and bar, and the food's pretty good, IMO. Had a very decent (remembering that this is Calder) prime rib there last weekend. Gotta admit I'm biased, the owner's an ex-BIL.

Nothing against the Big Eddy, I had a good breakfast there a few weeks ago. Just throwing out more options.
The selling point for the Big Eddy is the have plenty of room where we can all sit together and visit. The view of the river isn't bad either and we can sit on the deck if the weather is agreeable and the insects aren't horrible.

I haven't been in the Calder store and have only seen it from the outside and it looks pretty small.

It would be nice to actually meet/have lunch in Avery. Does the Trading Post have seating that would work for us?

I agree get fuel in St. Maries. Unless something has changed Big Eddy has fuel too but just regular.

The weather and conditions were perfect (thanks to all that rain we've been having).!!
Sector you look good on that bike. Nice to know you had a good time.

I keep thinking about getting my dirt bike out but that's as far as I have gotten with that idea. It's been a while since I've ridden it and I wasn't good to start with and my skills are a lot more rusty now.

Keep having fun with that new bike of yours.

Makes sense, they do have a nicer dining area and views than the other two spots. It sounds like they have been good to deal with on TTT as well. I didn't know they had fuel anymore, wish I had tried them over the weekend. I ran to St. Maries to top up before backtracking and running Latour, rode right by the Eddy. Can you verify that when you are there? It would ease my mind on some other possible rides.

We've brought ~20 people at a time into the Avery Trading Post before. Not much of a view there though. Might be worth lunch at the Eddy and a quick stop at Avery for ice cream and a look at the fish pond. Just an option.

Verify when we are there? Does that mean you won't be joining us?

A stop at Avery for ice cream after lunch always sounds good to me. Last time I stopped there they had huckleberry ice cream and I'm guessing they still do.

Any more input?

I'll probably post a decision later this evening.

Meetup

Date: Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011

Time: 2:00 PM

Where: Big Eddy, Calder, ID

A 2:00 pm gives plenty of time to get there no matter which way you decide to ride.

Let the ride plans start - get together with the people you enjoy riding with and come up with your plan for the ride to the Big Eddy.

Who wants to do pavement?

Who wants to do fast dirt?

Who wants to do slow dirt? (that would be me - SLOW as in slug pace )

Little Pend Oreille near Colville http://www.offroadnorthamerica.com/park.asp?pid=312 . According to people who know how to ride (like Rainbow), this is a beginner dirt biking area. For me, it was just plain fun. As for which trails, I don't know much. I didn't have a map and I just followed my brother around blindly . I was surprised how uncrowded it was.

Hey Ladybug, thanks for organizing! If any of my current commitments go away, I'll plan on coming down. If I do, I'll be on my bmw and looking for slow dirt .

I'm in, will work out details and get permission from the missus later. But it is easier to ask forgiveness right?

It will be nice if you can make it. Slow dirt? Somehow your idea of slow and my idea of slow are two different things. It's kind of like Rainbow007s idea of what is easy/beginers trails (Little Pend Oreille) are much different than mine.

You're a lucky man that your beautiful wife tolerates you.

Not really sure what happened other than I slammed into the ground at about 30 mph.
I didnít really feel like I was in trouble at all but all of a sudden the front end just washed out on me with no time to react. I cannot really explain it which is scary. I did have a full IMS 6.6 gallon fuel tank and the dirt was pretty loose in a lot of places where it did get squirrelly but I usually had time to react. Iím thinking not so much fuel when heading off road will be my new rule of thumb.

My injuries are nothing serious but certainly uncomfortable. Sore ribs and shoulder. Nothing a handful of ibuprofen and a few Kokanees a day canít handle. Iím sure Iíll ne fine by the 20th

Did you need the wonderful Washington State Discovery Pass?
