TW200 Visits Quartz Mountain-Manastash Ridge, WA

Did a 90 mile day trip to Quartz Mountain today. I got the TW ready for the ride last night.

I got up this morning and had some fresh blueberry pancakes and a nice cup of coffee. By 7am before things got too hot I was on the road. Gassed up at the Midstate Coop in Ellensburg and then headed off for Manastash Road.

Here is a picture of the bike loaded and ready for a day trip. I have a gallon of water in the MSR water bag that rests on the fuel tank. This has worked well for me for 1000s of miles. When I stop-I just open the valve and enjoy my personal drinking fountain.

Rest Stop along Manastash Creek.

Cabin off the main dirt road.

I checked out this campground. This would be a nice place to set up a base camp for a weekend and then explore this area in a little more detail.

Just before the summit there is this sharp left turn and the exposure here- though not extreme-if you are not careful could be dangerous. Just before this left turn on the uphill grade someone has painted the word SLOW on a tree in orange paint. After completing the left turn the views toward Mt Rainier are spectacular. It was then that I saw this memorial-a rider was killed here-I don't know the story-but I sat there for a while and gave a silent tribute to this fallen rider.

At the top of mountain is a campsite with two picnic benches and a view to kill for. Regrettably, today was really hazy-but I will be back again on a clearer day. But here are a few pictures from the top.

Interesting wind weathered trees:

Mt Rainier

Views to the northwest.

After a brief rest and small snack I headed back to Ellensburg.

Homeward Bound

Roads on this trip included:

Manastash Road
FR 31
FR 3100

That is so cool! I saw a couple of these at a recent trip to Colorado and was intrigued. Need to investigate a little more. How many miles are on the little mule at this point?

The front rack was made by CycleRack and then was modified to accommodate front panniers.

The rear rack is a Frankenstein. The foundation of the rack again is made by CycleRack, the pannier attachments are Happy Trail and owner designed, the trailer hitch component of this rack is DMC designed. Also DMC beefed the design to improve durability.

Here are some detailed pics:

Klay,

Thanks for the compliment.

I'm hoping next year it will get more use.

Also I'm working on getting a hitch for my F650GS so it too can pull the Unitrak trailer.

Tomorrow I'm hoping to get in a day trip to Mt Rainier.
