New Cans and Smoke :-(
Hi Guys,
I've just fitted a set of 2nd hand Scorpion exhausts to my 04 950. The thing is, they are smoking to varying degrees, sometimes to the point where when stopped at the lights you can find yourself being enveloped in a cloud of smoke. Anyone got any ideas, is she now running too rich ? There is not a lot of info out there on these cans.

Check for obstructions (i.e., cardboard, red rags, etc.), but most likely they got serviced with wrong wadding material. Akras alone don't smoke.

Oil burner
If they have come off a bike that had engine oil burning problems the oil residue will hang around in the cans for some time until it is all burnt off.
The varying degrees of smoke will be caused by how much heat is in the cans, I'm assuming that your bike didn't blow any smoke prior to fitting the cans. -GUV- |

I think you are right with Oil Residue.
I took her out for a long spin, by the time I got back looks like I burned off what ever was hanging around. Magnificant sound of those Scorpions though Cheers guys,

I had a similar thing with my new exhaust. The can smoked once it got hot, which also made it stink. It was the packing material heating up for the first time, after a long run on the weekend the smoke has disappeared.
Enjoy your new pipes.

I have the Scorps on my 990- and they're pretty much a straight shot, large bore pipe. Not a lot to slow down that exhaust gas- but if you're rings are doing their job, shouldn't matter what path that exhaust gas follows.... restricted by cats or straight. Smoke is from the engine- the pipes are just the path. I agree that it was probably the batting being full of unburned oil from the previous owner. Bet you're good to go. Now, about that popping on decel......
