OK...I guess that's enough pics of Calderwood.
Kevin it was a pleasure to finally meet you in person. That was a fun ride to the overlook. I was a little nervous we were going to get a little suprise from a LEO but luckily none were there yet.

mmmm this looks familiar anyway.....

It's quite scenic where the AT crosses atop the mtn, aint it?

I took this road later in the day thursday, almost had a head on with a guy on a R6 on the downhill side. He was struggling to make the uphill in a swithcback, I was object fixating on him all the while going into the swithcback and he was doing the same thing It turned out okay but it sure was strange meeting a sportbike on that road.

Looks like I'll be working weekends all through this summer but the up side to that is that I get to ride some during the week when there's hopefully a little less traffic.

Looks like a good place to keep a rake or a shovel

The town of Tryon was setting up for this weekend's big BBQ festival.....

I just blasted right on past there, across the watershed and down Bob's Creek with not a vehicle in sight!

Sometimes I just can't resist checking out what I know is a private drive.

This swimming hole was hidden a couple of miles back in the woods!...a youth camp but I knew it was too early for the kids to be there yet so didn't think a sneak peak would hurt.

Well....Time to hightail it out of there!

It'd been awhile since I'd been across Pinnacle Mtn so I decided to check on the rumors of recent development and logging. It's true that it's paved at least 1/2 way across now...but the Western end is still mostly natural soils.

I rode through several tracts that had been clear cut, word is that local environmentalists are pretty upset about the runoff that's silting up streams.

There was a 20% chance of rain.....but it never happened.....when and where I was.

I thought that I had remembered reading or hearing that Horse Pastures were going to be opened up for year round access.

It's not happening at the South gate.

...but the old gate off 178 was gone altogether!

A couple miles or so down the road....

It's kind of a bumpy ride in places....check out the size of this 'gravel'!

Well just about the time you start getting used to having your kidneys rattled....you run up on these.

Less than 4 miles from the old gate and likely more than 10 from any view of the lake it's time to turn around. Not sure who benefits from this short reopening?

To console myself from the closed gates I decided to get as high as the great state of SC will topographically allow.

...but found another gate.

Oh well...that's almost to the top anyway....and there is an overlook.

Future tagorama shot?
