I know this post is a bit old, but I saw that pic of the road and recognized it, and just had to comment. I was camping near Lake Jocassee in the fall of 2008 and had only been riding for a few months. I am a flatlander, so riding the twisties in the mountains was a new thing to me. I came up on that switchback and thought to myself "I guess I am about to find out if I can really ride this thing." I was riding north bound towards Brevard. When I got there I turned around and rode right back over the mountains because it was so much fun. It really reinforced why I had bought a motorcycle in the first place. I try to make it back there every summer, but may not make it back this year

I've known of Elk River Falls for some time but had never been there before yesterday.

It appeared to be a popular place.....

Looked like a good place to take a swim....but didn't see any takers.

I don't imagine one would want to stay in that water too long before you'd want to go back to sunning on the rocks!

It has come to my attention that there's a bunch of roads in this that I have yet to explore!

I even took the time to check out a few dead ends....had I not, y'all may have never gotten to seen this awesome truck!

Another first timer!

It went right past this well maintained cemetery miles away from the nearest house or church.

....then things became a bit more interesting heading down the mtn.

..at first it was just a little less gravel....

...then it got steeper (than it looks) rutted and littered with debris.

It wouldn't be much of a challenge on a thumper but I'm not sure if I'd want to try and climb it with the touring Strom....not when wet anyway.

Back in civilization.

I feel sorry for the folks that 'have to' turn around when the pavement ends.

Not a bad road for that Sunday drive.

....just try and keep her between the ditches!!

Rode past an open Forest Service gate....hope it wasn't an opportunity lost.

Spied this neat looking little resort near the Appalachian Trail on Dennis Cove.

Cabins, store, camping and more.
