Rolling through cotton country, the first signs of fall are here when fields turn white.

Decided to see if there were any signs of fall atop the Blue Ridge near Grandfather Mtn....

....not much on that South facing slope.

Just a hint from this angle...you leaf peepers still have plenty of time, unless we get a hard freeze soon.

You can see just a tinge of orange through here...it'll likely look pretty nice in a couple of weeks.

If you look close in this pic you can see the "mile high swinging bridge" above the viaduct.

Just a little farther to the North and more color can be seen in the background.....

I hopped aboard the fall parade through Valle Crucis

Looks like all the pumpkins have made their migration across the street from the barn to the house.

Fresh pavement on 194....but also lots of fresh gravel from the shoulder....

The reason for the ride, like I need one

Lunch!

I already posted the burger pic.....but one way you can usually tell if a greasy spoon is any good or not is by the number of work trucks in the parking lot....and this was a late lunch between 1 & 2ish..

The UPS guy was inside having a burger too.

Sharpie's...right on 421 at the state line....don't know how many times I've passed by here and never even noticed it.

I didn't leave any room to sample any more of Glenn's cafe tips but went ahead and did some fly bys anyway just to have a look.

Not a cafe.

167 running down the valley on the TN side of the ridge.....

That is where I found the Farmers Barbeque and Grill....

Looks like a newish place.....I'll sample it's menu on my next trip to the area.

pickup trucks in a gravel parking lot are always a good sign...remember this was taken during an 'off hour' too.

but this log cabin overlooking the Farmers Barbeque in the valley below was listed For Sale.
