Well the Willville campout got rescheduled to next weekend as the weather was forecast to be cold and wet up there.

It's been pretty nasty down here too this past week but, the skies cleared late this morning so I geared up and got on the bike about noon and headed toward the hills hoping they would see some sun too.

It was a beautiful day, albeit breezy through the foothills.

I stopped for gas near the base of the blue ridge and decided to do a weather check as the clouds were looking a bit darker up that way.

It's funny that I wasn't really sure about heading all the way up and over the ridge today until I seen the snow on the radar picture! Here goes nothing!

The wind actually was milder across the brp today it usually gets stronger. The sun was also still shining through partly cloudy skies so I hit the dirt immediately behind Stations Inn.

I rode through some off and on snow flurries but didn't see any signs of accumulation anywhere.....and all the gravel roads were still in great shape!!

It seemed like the skies would change every time I turned a corner today!

I even found a new house!!

.....more.....

This afternoon I was primarily scouting for the beginning and ending legs of the ride I plan to lead on Saturday at this year's RDV.

With so much unpaved goodness in the immediate area, this years rides will be almost completely different than the ones I led last year, new and improved.

The scenery will still suck though, sorry that I can't do anything about that.

The big city of Laurel Springs, home of the 2010 and 2011 Eastern Rendezvous!

There will be pavement on the "bum rides" too, but it won't be pretty.

I rode lots of this kind of stuff today.

...and a little bit of this.

And a few repeats from last year may likely be thrown in again just because they're either convenient.....

...or worth repeating.

I did run across a few places with fresh gravel, like here by the new bridge that's been installed since last spring down by my creekside cabin.

Just around that switchback sits the Old Dominion.

Same old, same old

Show up prepared!! There won't be much for services along this route!

.....more.....

Moving on down the line......

We do have to cross a few of these "super highways" in this area.

Seems that snow wasn't the only white thing falling from the skies in these parts!

Sorry for the suckage but...it's not my world, I'm just passing through.

In case you haven't figured it by now....Christmas trees are big business around here.

Old habits are hard to break.

......more......

Straight aways...aka dragstrips.

Antioch Church

It gets old after a while, don't it?

The new shock feels good!

My parting shot .... rolling back down off the mtn.

See ya at the RDV in Laurel Springs next month!!

Thanks guys

Today wasn't as much fun, spent most of the afternoon trying to get my lawnmower up and running again. It just barely finished leaf season before it fell apart!

But then the Mrs. and I took a little spin before sunset and grabbed some dinner.

This is the only on-the-fly pic that turned out today...oh well.

This pics sucks...but I gotta post it to prove that we were riding!

I like windmills.....but this pic, not so much.

.....another weekend has slipped away...gotta go help "the man" get rich tomorrow.....

It was a great three day weekend at the Spring Willville Campout

Lots of pics but unfortunately not many good ones from Friday and Saturday...Sunday's pics are much better. That won't stop me from posting a bunch of them anyway.

Friday morning dlrides and myself left the sunny skies of the foothills for the overcast haze of the mountains to scout more stuff for my RDV rides on our way to the campout.

As a side note of interest he showed me this cool old RR grade that unfortunately has a private gate on it now.

We didn't even try to get around that gate as there was evidence of what may happen to trespassers!!

Too bad, as it looks like fun.

We found some stuff that neither one of us had ever ridden before....both paved and dirt.

I don't like the blown out skies in a lot of these pics....but I really liked the roads we found and wanted to share some samples.

Thanks for patiently following me around!

Sick "S" turns through some of those valleys.

You have to tolerate a few straight sections....they help keep the bike cool.

Dirt

.....more, lots more.....

Allowing poisonous vines to grow on your old abandoned building is one way to keep the trespassers out!

Q:
Do you know why these old churches have two front doors?

A:
Separate doors for men and women, they also sat on separate sides inside.

As the morning passed into afternoon it began to look more and more like we'd be getting a little wet.

This area had a lot of very nice and some quite large farm houses a few generations ago......why so many of them have been allowed to simply become bug food.

Spring is just now beginning to creep into the higher elevations around these parts....by RDV time everything will be bright green.

Strom pron

It just aint right to keep an animal like that 950 pent up all day I had to let him play out front a little too.

....but since it was my scouting ride....

......mucho more.......

I pointed at this little two track as I rolled past and seen dlrides in turn ride up it...so I did a u-turn and followed, this was the view looking back down...

...from here.

There was a maze of old logging roads that were in remarkably good shape just above that!

These ridge-top roads are sweet!
I hope the sky is a little bluer when I go back.

Wait for me at the turn!

Those weren't the turns I was talking about...but I'll take 'em!!

I'll stop and get better pics of this place next time.....

The sides of my tires will be worn out!

Did we happen to ride by your house?

...maybe you seen us...

The scouting portion of the ride is over...Willville here we come!

The sun was shining when we pulled into camp Friday afternoon!!

It was great to see Happy Riding out on her bike again after having back surgery last year!

This was my first time camping @ Willville....it's a super moto-camp and I highly recommend the place!!

It's moto-only but I did see a scooter freak there

livermush rode the CB up!

dlrides' identity revealed!

Hibinder & Lady Draco's Valks only parking area

257bob rolling in on his newish Wee-Strom

A handful of us rode out to dinner that evening, here I'm following PARTYBOSS out of the campground...

Yes....that's the driveway/loop

Just past the Mabry Mill.....

.....we found some excellent grub at the Woodberry Inn!

We never did ride in any rain on Friday.....but Gaston Gagne arrived later that evening, just as a line of thunderstorms that spawned tornadoes that caused serious damage in nearby Pulaski was hitting camp!!

Anyway he beat the storm to camp just in time to take this pic that I thugged from his smugmug.

No damage in camp thankfully!

but here's what I found in my feezer when I got home Sunday night!

My wife said those were from Saturday and that they were bigger as they sat in the yard for a few hours before she got home from work and picked them up!

Thanks...I'll put the check in the mail.

It's fun finding stuff you've never ridden before but, then you think "how could I have never ridden this before?"
