Saturday morning Shane and I showed a map to Mike and picked his brain a little bit then Mark, Hunter and Alan joined us in search of some 'true dual-sport' riding!

We started out mild with another run down FR 209, but in the reverse direction.

That had us headed to the middle Cocke county TN

...and smuggy just crashed...again

more later

Looks like smugmug is up again.

I hope they can get this recent rash of troubles behind them and the disclaimer under my coupon code can be removed soon.....

Back to Cocke county.....where everything seems to go back in time.

The single lane pavement quickly turns to single lane gravel...

.....and the gravel quickly turns into two track....

....and you never know just what you may find?

Here's a very nicely maintained cemetery atop a not so maintained road.

After stumbling down a few dead ends we finally found what we were looking for!

It was time to stow the cool weather gear and work up a sweat.

A beautiful day to be on Bug Branch.

_anatic

The sheriff

One of the yellow bikes

...the other one. rmarkr I think....

Of course I don't have any pics of fun obstacles as I was busy trying to stay alive!

Hey Kevin,
I was just up in your neck of the woods and forgot to call you to see if you'd like to ride.
Sorry my friend.
Oh well...Here's a link to our ride report.

You can't let folks call you 'banjo and not want to ride Rocky Top in Tennessee!!

We actually rode through 'the maze' without the help of a GPS and found it on the first try!

....but then I zigged when I should have zagged s but found something even more fun that connected over to Hall's Top.

ooops

That old beast ran flawless the whole weekend! ...and no, there's still no 3rd gear.

Hall Top

It smoothed out here as we made our way down to Hartford for some lunch.

Super top secret twisty pavement for dessert.

A quick stop in Mt. Sterling......

.......before taking a short-cut to Buzzard's Roost.

Lots of pics from this spot and it was kinda too dark to be taking pics.

Getting psyched up.

If you look close in these next two you can see what's left over from an old bridge.

Ready...set....ACTION!!

Whoa! wet leaves on rocks can be slippery!!

Easy does it!!

ooops

That old KTM was a little bit sleepy on Saturday

I think that tree had a magnet in it.

We survived the 'short-cut' but I think the KTM needed another nap but since there's no pics of it we won't mention that.

Back out on the 'main road'.

Buzzard's Roost....another of my 'same old, same old's'

It's always a bit spooky to step out on that point though.

We split the group at the bottom of Harmon Den where it crosses I-40 as only two of us had the energy to 'walk' our bikes up to Hurricane Creek.

We declared a race with the other three....destination Hot Springs.

Buncha turkeys.

Of course we did have to stop at a few recognizable places to verify our route.

BTW......we won.

'r u lookin @ me?'

...people from far away lands....

Saturday night became Sunday morning, as it often does and look what was found out by the fire pit.

Sunday ROBBLE and I followed Gaston Gagne home. Always a good choice.

Here he's turning the over to me for a little while....I'd hand it back again a little later.....

ROBBLE

I'm pretty sure that my not having a third gear and always riding around one handed to take pics slowed them down....too bad.

NC 197 ....but not the typical pic you see of it....

One side of that mountain remains unpaved.....

That's always a good place to have the lead!

Just below where I think the pic that Bert posted was taken.......

Lots of pic-less twisty back roads led us to Little Switzerland, where we headed on down what's now known as the 'diamondback'....Gaston leading the charge.

Then I rotated to the end of the line as we approached Lake James and began looking for a place to eat.

Here's the place we found.

Back on the road and past the mouth of the Linnville Gorge.....

...and that's it.....75 miles from home and I quit taking pics

I'm sure there's probably a pic of everything between here and there in this thread already!
(and besides, those colors aren't at peak yet...I need something to take pics of over the next couple of weekends too)

BIG time up at Rick's cabin!!

Thanks to all that made it happen!!
