Very cool shots today. I'm not afraid of heights, but this made me queasy.

It's a whole network of trails crossing powerlines that have trails of their own.....

Following that wide main trail crossed this new road, no buildings on it...yet but it probably won't be too much longer before all the woods is gone through here too.

It's hard to believe that this is all so close to my house and I'd never ridden any of it before!

But parts of it were wider than the 'roads' we were on in the mtns yesterday!

An unlocked and unmarked gate turned out to be just one of many access points.

Some of these just dead end at fences...I suspect they are used by hunters on atv, that's why i don't explore stuff like this 'in season'

Here you can see my tracks as I return on one of those aforementioned dead ends.

Playing in the mud is fun!

Well looky there....been riding around in circles!

Here's another perspective on the size of that trestle.

She's a dirty 'ol girl!

As if finding some new trails wasn't enough fun for the day....

....after going home and cleaning up this little one talked me into going out to dinner and doing a little sunset shed hunting along the way.

We even bagged a windmill!!

Here's a couple that are still on the edge of usability?

Old but not falling apart, is that a better way to put it? If they are sitting empty it's usually not long before they're falling apart.

Time for dinner!

They make a 'Philly style' cheese steak from their award winning beef brisket! A big bowl of hush puppies while you wait and choose your side for just over six bux!

I'll be bloated til morning!

They had some pretty neat tricks for hiding them too.

Here's another view of that one...it's magnetic, pretty tricky eh?

This one may be even trickier....it's a guard rail bolt....yep, there's 'cachers' out there unbolting guard rails!

The bolt itself has been machined out so it's hollow and the capsule can fit inside.

Here's what's inside the capsule. it's an internet game, much like our tag-o-ramas.

i belive they work way harder at thier game than we do

I didn't think any kind of ride would happen this weekend as the weather forecast was for cool and wet through Monday. But about noon Sunday this bright shiny appeared in the sky and things got so warm I almost broke a sweat just walking the dogs....but that may be more from being fat and out of shape ...maybe.

Seemed like an opportunity to get the pig out for a spin. I liked this road better before it was paved....the pig disagrees.

...but...no sooner than I got out on the road the clouds rolled back in....that's just plain

It' always good for us old timers to get out for a little fresh air.

TAT in NC?

Hey Banjo,

I have enjoyed your ride reports and pics a lot. Good stuff! I have a question. Have you discovered any trail or ride that would be comparable to the TAT as it may be in Tennessee, whaere it starts? Would be pretty cool to have something like that in the Tar Heel state.

Regards,

Dave

Hi Dave,

Thanks

No, I have not plotted out any cross state routes..I have read of others trying to do such a thing though but can't remember where I read about it?
However, I do believe that the Eastern end of the TAT would benefit from some revisions. It's even been reported that most of what it uses in TN is now paved. There were some guys plotting a route from New Jersey to TN to make the TAT a true coast to coast but unfortunately I don't remember what thread that was in either. I do have a gps track from a member here that plotted a route from the SC coast through the GA & AL mtns that rejoined the TAT out around AR skipping the paved sections of TN. I say that I have it but I don't have a gps so I've never tried any of it...just glanced at it in google earth. I wish that I could remember who to give credit to for it, I think it was one of the GA crew...and unfortunately attachments have gone away here at ADV so I can't post it anyway....

Well Dave...with that I say Go For It! Plot out that Tar Heel route for us ...it would be very cool!
